Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

@Catcakes how awesome that you make dolls. and yes, you can indeed join in, in fact, please do. Your company would be most welcome.

Good suggestion too, thrift stores can be a good source of things for craft.
Some knitted garments can be undone to reclaim the yarn too, I haven't managed to find anything to do that with though. Not being able to use wool is a limiter for me. I've bought garments, and curtains and sheets etc and remade them into something different too.

I'd be most interested in seeing any images of your dolls that you'd like to share, if that is okay with you of course.

Re: Craft Corner

hey guys,

Thought I would drop in here as i particularly love crafting! And crochet is one of my favourite pastimes. Love the input on wool too as it can get expensive. I am currently trying to work with a big crochet hook using jersey material that i have torn into thread - to make bath mats! Kind of like the below, as they are a t-shirt type of material they absorb well enough and can be washed.

Love the funky hook set @CheerBear - i got myself a bunch of metalic ones haha @Phoenix_Rising well done on yuor progression. @Former-Member I'd love to master creating a little dragon like the ones you highlighted above! Great advice you have provided Loving the tips and tricks in here everyone.

Re: Craft Corner

@Phoenix_Rising I never, or almost never, pay full price for yarn, or fabric, or pretty much anything of a crafty nature. (y'know, never being an absolute, all it takes is that one time, and it's no longer true)

More expensive does not necessarily mean 'better', so the cheaper yarn will work perfectly well.

There's lots of opinions about yarn, but what matters is what works for you across all the things you have to take into consideration for your own reasons. (finances, allergies (wool for me), comfort, use of end product)

The smaller hook range like @CheerBear's will be more beneficial to you as you'll be focusing on toys.

Really excited about seeing what you end up with. Also excited for you and the next steps on your adventure, and all the steps that come after. New skills are so invigorating I think. I'll stop rambling now ...

Re: Craft Corner

Welcome to Craft Corner @Former-Member lovely to see you and hear your craft stories.

Awesome that you're making bath mats from jersey. Are you recycling old clothing to do it, that's such a cool thing to do. But it's okay if the fabric comes to you another way too.

Years and years ago I made a kitchen mat by tearing old cotton clothes into strips, plaiting the strips and then sewing them into a circle - man that was work! Never again. Crocheting it would have been so much cleverer!

@Phoenix_Rising is doing so well in this crochet adventure that @CheerBear and she began together. It's so amazing that the dragon pattern I suggested was one that Phoenix_Rising and CheerBear had already ear marked for future attention. We are just so in tune here!

I think we're going to make the Narwhal from the vid link @CheerBear linked up higher as a first attempt at amigurumi. If you don't already have the toy making thing down, I'm sure we'd all be glad to have you join us on this adventure @Former-Member.
Any craft tips, suggestions and 'stuff' appreciated too.
