Craft Corner

Craft Corner

A place to chat and share all things crafty!

What's your favourite craft? Is there anything you're working on at the moment? What would you like to create/work on (I have heaps of "one day" project patterns and ideas that I know I will probably never get around to, but it's nice to imagine)? I'd love to hear!

I have absolutely no artistic side to me and stick figures are the extent of my drawing ability, but I really enjoy learning and trying out new crafts. I learnt crochet during a stay in a prevention and recovery centre and it's something I pick up often when I am feeling blue, I need a distraction or I'm just a little bored. I've tried paper crafts too, although I didn't really get far with anything. Sharpies are some of my best friends and when I find my hands need to move I have a collection of smooth rocks that I draw on (different coloured circles) which often relaxes me. Sometimes I dust off the sewing machine and sew as well. I walk around spotlight for a fun outing 😉

Looking forward to hearing from you all 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

@CheerBear The garden centre let us pick our own, gave them to us for free. We are propping off a painted one as thanks.

Looking forward to your next pic.

@saturnzoon The blanket looks lovely. It will be so nice and warm. I agree with @Gazza75 the colours are lovely.

@outlander Hi there.

Re: Craft Corner

Hiya everyone 👋🙂

@saturnzoon that looks great! Is it hard to do the hexagon and join them together? I can see how tricky it would be to square that off.

@Gazza75 Is there any kind of craft or art you enjoy doing?

@Maggie I think I might leave the rocks for a while and keep going with canvas for a while. I did another one last night and am enjoying it heaps. I'll add a pic in a moment. I'm now thinking that eventually I'd like to try a really big canvas with some pretty metallic paints once I've had some more practice. Middle used one of the rocks last night and had a play with lots of different coloured dots randomly put together. They had fun.

Re: Craft Corner

This is last night's adventure on 8x8 canvas this time. It also needs vanishing and touching up (some of the big dots have set a bit funny and I need to clear off the guidelines etc). Again I enjoyed it so much. It really is very soothing. Thanks again @Maggie . I have been in a bit of a crafty funk and this has really helped me out of it.

Re: Craft Corner

@CheerBear That is absolutely gorgeous. You are sooo good at dotting, it looks perfect. People love them as gifts.

Little might like to make some rock bugs, lady bugs etc. I’ve even transformed golf balls into ladybirds.

Re: Craft Corner

wow @CheerBear , that looks so bright and wonderful 🙂

Re: Hobbies, I learned to make baskets in the USA, but, I can't find any good material to use here in Australia. As @Maggie said your dots look perfect. Is that you your 2nd one? if so, double wow!

Re: Craft Corner

Thanks @Maggie. I can see these kinds of things being great gifts. Golf balls sound very cool. I'd love to see one of them if you feel like/can share. My head is exploding at all the possibilities for dot art. Love that feeling!

Morning @Gazza75 and thank you too. That was my second and a half. I started another but didn't like the colours so I went to this one instead. I don't have many paints as the paint we have here is very kiddy (as in they've trashed it playing craft haha). Baskets sound interesting. What kinds of material did you use to make them?

Re: Craft Corner

Morning @CheerBear , well 2.5 was terrific 🙂 The baskets only need a big needle, raffia and pine needles. The pine needles we have here are a bit to short, at least the ones I have been able to find. I have tried making them with casuarina needles, but, its a little diffucult and they come out feeling loose rather than tight.

@CheerBear This isn’t my cat potting, but I’ve done one. Golf balls and bugs littles might like. Just quietly, biggies like them too, but shsssss.

Re: Craft Corner

Thanks again @Gazza75. Your baskets sound really interesting. If you have a pic of any you've done or any like them from online somewhere, I'd love to see (if you feel up for sharing).

@Maggie I laughed heaps at that Public Service Announcement. I don't think I've said it here but I'm very lucky and have been raised by extraordinarily talented arty type. It's my 'well' person. We've bonded over arty crafty stuff a lot over the years but haven't really found a style we both can do together. We sat looking at all the dot arts together, both dreaming big, and now we have plans to dot together. We've been talking and messaging dots a lot haha. I've collected some goodies for us to play with and they've cleaned out and cleared out their art space (a whole room - I'm very jealous!). I'll see them tomorrow night and am busting to play with them. Your arty goodness is spreading 😊

Love the creations above. I will show my middle and I'm sure they'll love them too!
