Adventures on Turtle Island

Adventures on Turtle Island

Edit:

Welcome to Turtle Island!

What began as a discussion about personality types based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, quickly found a few of us marooned on an Island in the shape of a turtle (see below), in the South Pacific. We are currently having all kinds of adventures using our MBTI types to work out what might happen. If you're looking for some light-hearted fun, everyone is welcome to come along to stay or just visit. (You can get an idea of your MBTI here if you're interested.) Recently we found a (non-existent) suggestion box on the Island, we think it's come from an elusive island neighbour, so you're welcome to just fly (or swim) past and drop us some suggestions too.

Niqueeta wrote a fabulous prelude to Turtle Island here:

Turtle Island : The Night Before

Spookytookims has written some awesome episodes which can be found here:

The First Morning

Turtle Island episode 2

Turtle Island episode 3 (this one even has pictures!)

Turtle Island episode 4: Shipwreck Salvage

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 1)

Turtle Island: The Lurgi Strikes (part 2)

We now have a welcome sign which is also our Island flag:

And here we are in a message in a bottle on the sand as drawn by Lil-Caterpillar!

Here are some views of our Island - isn't it spectacular?!

Looking forward to bumping in to you!

This is how it all began....

****************

Personality and what makes us us is something I find really interesting and I think there would be a few of us out there who share that interest.

@Spookytookims and I were having a chat about MBTI and the differences in our 'types'. I've found myself pondering what factors in our personalities might influence our interactions and the way a deeper understanding of people may improve communication. I like thinking about what makes two or more people 'click' or not.

While it's difficult to imagine the world being split into a small number of personality 'types', I am interested in what different personality tests offer us in terms of gaining insight or understanding.

Maybe an interesting discussion if anyone wants to join 🙂

Re: All things personality

Looking forward to seeing your results @Queenie.

Sweet dreams @Phoenix_Rising. Good to see you still sticking with your 9pm goal (even if it is to our loss lol)

Re: All things personality

@Queenie I think it is individual based. I had my original typing done ages and ages ago, face to face with a uni professor... and I did another one last night on the humanetics site and it is the same kind of. I used to be closer to E/ I NTP , one question that I found ambiguous at the time, switched from INTP to ENTP. I was that close. Now it is up around 11% further into I than E.

Re: All things personality

Hahaha! It seems I'm still the same ENTP!

Here's what it said:

"Clever" is the word that perhaps describes ENTPs best. The professor who juggles half a dozen ideas for research papers and grant proposals in his mind while giving a highly entertaining lecture on an abstruse subject is a classic example of the type. So is the stand-up comedian whose lampoons are both funny and incisively accurate.

ENTPs are usually verbally as well as cerebrally quick, and generally love to argue--both for its own sake, and to show off their debating skills. ENTPs tend to have a perverse sense of humor as well, and enjoy playing devil's advocate. This sometimes confuses, even angers, those who don't understand or accept the concept of argument as a sport.

ENTPs are as innovative and ingenious at problem-solving as they are at verbal gymnastics; on occasion, however, they manage to outsmart themselves. ENTPs can be prone to "sharp practice" – especially cutting corners without regard to the rules if it's expedient – or, their juggling acts may simply be so over-ambitious they collapse.

Both at work and at home, ENTPs are very fond of "toys" -- physical or intellectual, the more sophisticated the better. Once these have been "solved" or become too familiar, however, they’ll be replaced with new ones.

ENTPs are basically optimists, but in spite of this (perhaps because of it?), they can become petulant about small setbacks and inconveniences. (Major setbacks they regard as challenges, and tackle with determination.) ENTPs have little patience with those they consider wrongheaded or unintelligent, and show little restraint in demonstrating this. In general, however, they are genial, even charming, when not being harassed by life.

In terms of their relationships with others, ENTPs are capable of bonding very closely and suddenly with their loved ones. Some appear deceptively offhand with their nearest and dearest; others are so demonstrative that they succeed in shocking co-workers who've only seen their professional side. ENTPs are also quick to spot a kindred spirit, and good at acquiring friends of similar temperament and interests.

ENTPs may sometimes give the impression of being largely oblivious to the rest of humanity except as an audience: good, bad, or potential. In general this is unfair – but it can be difficult to get an ENTP’s attention when they’re not immediately aware of you, especially for an Introvert.

The best approach in communicating with an ENTP is to be straightforward. No games – they’ll win. No "pulling rank" – they’ll just want to put you in your place. No apologies – you’ll undermine yourself. Try "I need/want to talk to you."

Gawd that sounds horrible!!

Re: All things personality

@Queenie, from a quick google and my understanding each trait that the test measures is based on a percentage rather than a definite one way or the other. The results are often conveyed and understood as being one or the other of a particular trait, but if examined in detail they will show how strongly one is aligned with each trait. From that, it seems as if any variance in 'type' over time, is likely to occur because of factors including mood, environment, habits at the time etc. I know for me the I. N and F will come up high almost always. I don't score as highly in my P trait so I would imagine over time it's going to be the one most likely to change, like Spooky with your I/E. There's some really interesting articles out there written by people who believe that traits that are too developed or underdeveloped can present challenges, and then how to work on those traits to become more 'rounded'.

Re: All things personality

btw.. I love ENTPs... @Queenie know heaps about them because I was on the cusp when I was first tested so read up on both. I and E NTPs

Re: All things personality

@CheerBear you know how you said about us talking or something or other.. and it would either work or get messed up? It would work.. and I will tell you why.

Because I could tell you why you were feeling what you were feeling... and then you could tell me how it felt.

So together we could make the whole and make sense of it on all levels.

Re: All things personality

I agree @Spookytookims and think that together we could make some sense of a whole lot of things from different angles. I like that I get you more now too and was thinking about the things you spoke about last week (what feels like last year) and could empathise with why they were important for you to make sense of now a little more too
