Songs That Resonate With You

Songs That Resonate With You

Music is an important part of my life. It can influence your mood by calming or energising you, it can define you and give you strength. It can help you make sense of things and allow you to express your emotions. Whilst I haven't any musical ability, I enjoy listening to it.

I thought it might be of benefit for us to share some songs or even instrumental pieces that hold special significance. Post a video and say a bit about why this particular one resonates with you.

I'll start off. This one's an oldie by Cat Stevens nowadays known as Yusef Islam. For me, "Sitting" is an empowering song. It starts off by stating that "Oh I'm on my way, I know I am." Realistically it also recognises the confusion we all feel from time to time. In conclusion it offers the advice that "life is like a maze of doors" and that we have to make the correct decision about whether we push or pull to make any progress.

Re: Songs That Resonate With You

My siblings claim that when our mother had cancer, I took charge and didn't allow anyone else to help. I distinctly remember him saying that he wouldn't be available on all these certain days because he was seeing movies as part of the French film festival. My sister's husband had just bought a $90000 boat so she claimed that she couldn't take time off work. She also insisted that Mum could just take a taxi to the hospital because if we helped her too much she would become needy. Mum was so flustered that I assuered her that I would be there for every appointment. Now my brother's recollection is that all I ever did for her was some shopping.

When I returned to Australia, they were in the throes of moving her into aged care. I asked Mum if that was what she really wanted and that I would take care of her. She said that my sibs thought it was best. Never wanting to make waves, she agreed. When I visited her at the facility, she would tell me how much she missed her home and her garden.

So I feel awful that I ever relinquished her care. Lots of guilt there.

A MOTHER'S LOVE
~ by Jim Brickman

Thank you for
watching over me
All of the sleepless nights
you lay awake
Thank you for knowing
when to hold me close
and when to let me go

Thank you for
every stepping stone
And for the path that
always leads me home
I thank you for
the time you took
to see the heart
inside of me

You gave me the
roots to start this life
and then you
gave me wings to fly
And I learned to dream
Because you
believed in me

There's no power
like it on this earth
No treasure
equal to its worth
The gift of
a mother's love

Thank you for
every sunlit day
That filled the
corners of my memory
Thank you for every
selfless unsung deed
I know you did for me

Thank you for
giving me the choice
To search my soul
till I could find my voice
And I thank you
for teaching me
To be strong
enough to bend

You gave me the
roots to start this life
and then you
gave me wings to fly
And I learned to dream
Because you
believed in me

There's no power
like it on this earth
No treasure equal
to its worth
The gift of
a mother's love

I thank God for
a mother's love

While our circumstances are different I can appreciate the feeligs of guilt over decisions made but I dont think it was unreasonable to do something for yourself when your siblings were to help out. And you had done so much already...

@soul

Things are what they are. You cannot change the past nor can you control other peoples bad choices and behaviours. Meditate and sleep heaps.

Breath in, Breath out....every cloud has a silver lining.

I'm thinking of you.
