Re: Carers under 30...

that is true @Former-Member i guess its different when they are your partner first before your caree. just struggling with caring at the moment, and i really dont know what to do. i dont want to give it up but theres a huge part of me that knows someone else can do a much better job for pop and maybe pop would be happier with someone else too.

Caring isn't for everyone, but I think no matter what we do our confidence can fluctuate and there are times we doubt our abilities @outlander.

sorry @Former-Member i am grateful for everything. i think the challanges of today have just made everything seem worse than what they might really be

Re: Carers under 30...

its not that i mind caring and helping @Former-Member but since i started caring my relationship with pop hasnt been as good as before and ive also noticed he doesnt seem to be happy with me and then it upsets me because it doesnt seem to matter what i do i cant improve the situation and then i go into this spiral.
i dont know what im doing, its just caring though so maybe its just a decline in my mh. i dont even want to be near the horses lately or even do my artworks so maybe its just a mix of everything atm...

Re: Carers under 30...

I think I view myself primarily as Mr Darcy's wife not his carer @outlander and whilst I do have some frustrations (don't we all?) continue to love him dearly, he is an equal partner and I do try to ensure that I do not take over.

I totally agree @Former-Member, I try to do actually the same with Mr shaz

@outlander, You are doing a wonderful job as carer for your Pop and your pop is unwell as well which makes it hard

I am finding it more and more with my mum , as I am not her carer but still her daughter , and I can see things starting to get worse , and mum said today she was getting worse

at the moment I am still ensuring that I don`t take over mum`s indepentace but in the future it will change like your situation with your pop

one day at a time my sister @outlander and sometimes it is hard to find that right balance

When we are unwell things can seem a lot worse than they are @outlander. Being a carer though, there is opportunity to have part time work which can give you options should you wish to transition to an alternative career.

Having a cross over in posts here @outlander. Any relationship has the potential to break down and doing things in love and keeping communication open is the key.

Re: Carers under 30...

bugger lost the post..

i guess that is where im the odd one out abit, i dont care for my partner though if i did i think i did i would be the same and have them as a partner first. i try to see pop as a pop first rather than a care recipient, i guess it just gets hard when all my roles now are only associated with caring instead of being a grand-daughter.

i dont really have time for another job, i work with pop, have siblings, study and work with horses as well (both paid and my own)

maybe a new day will bring some light an then i can start again...

Re: Carers under 30...

In many ways, even though it is not a partner you are taking care of there are many things that carers across all relationships experience. We think we like to think of our granddads as benign loving oldies who adore us but the reality is they can be grumpy old men @outlander as can our husbands. 😀

Being intentional in caring is things like getting Pop a cuppa and a biscuit, but smiling and letting him know as he is your grandpa you got him his favourite biscuits or let him have two.

Being a carer though is running through a weekly schedule for appts, gritting ones teeth when our loved ones are being stubborn but being a grand daughter is letting you know you love them and you have their best interests at heart and that you are there for them. Most of the things I do for Mr D is what I consider to be the norm for a couple but do step up when he struggles. I mainly use the term carer for medical as there is the carer recognition act and associated obligations.

I am fortunate that Mr D is so lovely and does involve me in his medical care.
