Re: Carers under 30...

@Former-Member, sometimes looking after ourselves can be difficult but it is important to do so.

I know I grit my teeth through these tests as required, but do not have any experience in the additional challenges you have. Perhaps if someone on the lived experience side has had similar trauma they might be able to let you know how they got on.

I know my possum that at times it seems we just can't win ...

Re: Carers under 30...

i know they want swaps and all sorts @Former-Member i dont want them probing around there. its really uncomfortable for me esp from my past but ive explained to the nurse about my SA past as well as shes really understanding.

i know its important to do i just wish i didnt have to do it this young. i cant seem to catch a break i feel like im drowning in my own things!

is there anything that you do to prepare yourself physically and mentally before you go in there?

Re: Carers under 30...

As I'm getting old and perimenopausal and things are erratic @Former-Member I have to ring the day I get my period for a booking 10-14 days later. Try and get first appt of day to get it over and done. I will fast too as when they do the bloods they will probably do a glucose test, saves going back another time. On the day have a shower that morning rather than the night before ...

Bloods are because diabetes in my family @Former-Member, as well as other things that go with age ... a friend once told me it all goes down hill once you turn 50 ...

Re: Carers under 30...

i think it come early for me @Former-Member

they want me to do bloods for other things as well- diabetes runs in my family and so does thyroid conditions so they want to keep an eye on them as well

Re: Carers under 30...

A final thought for the night @Former-Member, if the doc recommended these blood tests for the person you care for, would you ensure they got done?

Yes, I am a tough old broad ... but we carers have to stick together to ensure that we look after ourselves too...
