Re: Carers under 30...

@outlander, I hurt my foot many years ago- a very different cause, but I think what happened is that I stretched a major nerve that runs along the top of the foot. I re-injured it some time later when I had a cast iron sheet/slab fall on top of it. It did heal eventually, the acute pain passed fairly quickly, but it took a few years to be completely pain free. OK most of the time, until I bumped or dropped something on it. I'm no doctor of course, but maybe ask next time you're there if there's a possibility of nerve damage?

Re: Carers under 30...

oh god i hope not @Smc ive already got nerve damage to my hand, i wouldnt want it in my foot too. nerve damage in yoru foot wouldnt have been very pleasant! i might give it another few days unless it gets worse and see it it settles down. maybe its just a bone bruise and needs a few days to settle down....

Re: Carers under 30...

oh i didnt know that! @Shaz51 they sound very painful though! did you have to have surgury for them?

Re: Carers under 30...

We'll certainly hope for quick healing @outlander.

And all nerve damage is not alike. Even if it is a nerve, depending on the type of injuy, it may heal perfectly OK. And that's "if".

Re: Carers under 30...

thanks @Smc is your injury healed now or is it lifelong? do you always have to be careful now in case you reinjure it?
my hand has only been 8 months and while its alot better it still limits me heaps like i cant lift alot of heavy things or hold things for long before i get to much pain or i feel it for the next few days.
i was told it can take a yr or more for it to heal.

Re: Carers under 30...

My injury has healed completely. And yes, a year or more is a realistic recovery time for nerve damage.

I injured a thumb joint back in September (mild dislocation) an that's still healing, but the fact that I can notice ongoing improvement is promising. I couldn't hold things or put any pressure on it for a few weeks after the injury; I can use it normally now, but occasionally I overstrain it or bump it and it hurts. Am guessing that again I stretched a nerve when it dislocated, but it's also possible it's a stretched tendon healing.
The thing to look for is improvement. As long as you can see recovery, even if its slight, healing is happening. Levelling out may mean that its reovered as far as its going to, OR may simply be a "pause" in the process. Deterioration is something to get back to a doctor about.

Re: Carers under 30...

im glad yours has healed. that is good news @Smc
yes healing is good. my hand injury involved a broken finger in both of the joints in the same finger, pretty much every soft part of my hand and forearm were damaged and the nerve injury as well. it took them 3 weeks to actually tell me my finger was broken after 2 other drs told me there was nothing wrong with it. then weeks of the break healing then slow recovery of another 6 months. with splints and gentle exercises, heat packs, pain releif and tens machines and those sorts of things. so im glad that i can even use my hand again even though im still cautious with it. i think its plateoued now though but its not gotten worse.
