Risk to reputation

Risk to reputation

Community mental health admit they don’t get tongue in cheek because they take everything seriously but what happens if you use humour and send emails to your friends and include them? You get sectioned, twice. It happened to me.

Emails are tricky because unless you visually meet the person and ask what you mean, you assume they are a risk to their reputation and take immediate action which includes police.

Can one be more careful when looking on the bright side of life then get hospitalised because people with power can’t take a joke?

Re: Risk to reputation

I was sending emails to myself. I just cc'ed them in. I won't do it again but they can't read nuance and see humour and I can't help their mediocre "ness". I can't be bothered Googling what you suggested but I also suggest you maybe ask why they don't take any feedback. The channels available are tokenistic and so if you want a channel with them you get a s 19. Then you get 42 hours waiting for a bed on a mattress on the floor in a room of ED. By the way, my local health district received funding from ACI to do with Rural Innovation Prizes. They nominated themselves with four initiatives including one about "outstanding ED practices" and guess who won by a mysteriously formed "panel". Excellence in ED. This is in the same year that I sent the emails. You know, I have no regrets because as a social activist I am resilient enough to handle their controls and find a voice by talking to the CEO of another lived experience peak body (not SANE Australia). I honestly would not change a thing. If others cannot see the absurdity, it's not my problem. The system stinks. I am not ok with that.

Re: Risk to reputation

I take a bow @Bow as you are entitled to your opinion. Thanks for sharing. I see things differently however. But I like to think that there are people out there who otherwise do their job for the right reasons and I am grateful to remember that these have also been on my journey so yeah. I still believe in freedom of expression however. I also know that to take your life in a high risk acute unit is not providing a safe space either so if everyone just took emails to s 19 every single soul as if they are somehow protecting them then I actually know differently, from lived experience. It is a common knowledge amongst the peak body I spoke with this week to and there is understanding and compassion too.

@Sequester I believe your approach in Natural Prescriptions is spot on, evidence based and the most effective long term approach once integrated into one's life style... For all humans, diagnosed or not. I had good outcomes following something similar... Since the 80s ... I am a bit of a dippy hippy who swerved and did some science at Melbourne Uni. Lol. I learned about legumes and sprouts, whole foods, science and exercise, riding my bike to get there, etc. There's humour in all that. Sorry about that shrink. I would have thought they would have been positive.

Yes, re lack of nuance. It can take a while to get a sense of the human touch on the forum. I periodically think of leaving, but your post deserves a good response.

There are non mainstream movements- Mad Studies, Abolition, Lived Experience networks. I know some people working in the system, seeing the rot, but trying to do the right thing by those who need it. Sadly, the structure, hierarchies and current protocols seem less about therapeutic outcomes.

So, yes, go for it. Network. There are Lived Experience peep running art, comedy, music, writing and getting back to nature... Groups.

Cooee

Cheers

Fellow hippy: from one to another you kick ass @Appleblossom

I took the "leap" and posted it on the education/training/professional development channel because I find criticism constructive and I trust I addressed the negativity addressed to my valid question about "risk to reputation". If you like, I'll keep you posted on what eventuates. If someone takes "Natural Prescriptions" as a ABN I would be glad to know I was part of the social movement.

I honestly would go back a year and do everything I did all over again re: sending emails to myself and provoke "feedback". But I think I got the response I was deep down looking for which was apathetic patheticness :)

Take a bow. Do as I say, not as I do. Or whatever, I'm hungry. I need to take my medicine.
