Recognition for the work that carers do

Recognition for the work that carers do

Hello people in Carers Forum Land. I've never ventured over here from the lived experience forum and I'm feeling all shy. However, this article landed in my inbox this morning and I thought it would be of interest over here. I don't actually have any family or friends myself, but I know that carers do an amazing job in supporting those that they love. If anyone here does happen to feel like adopting someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, I'm open to it. I mean, what could be more fun than having someone (or another someone) with BPD in your life! Here's the link to the article: http://theconversation.com/heres-how-much-it-would-cost-the-government-to-pay-everyone-who-takes-care-of-family-with-mental-illness-74760?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274&utm_content=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274+CID_3e0041eadb6d09286518efab7811c5a4&utm_source=campaign_monitor&utm_term=Heres%20how%20much%20it%20would%20cost%20the%20government%20to%20pay%20everyone%20who%20takes%20care%20of%20family%20with%20mental%20illness

Hi Darcy,

Phew, that was quite a storm that my pickle turned into! But it has passed now and hopefully things will be a little calmer in my world for a while. I totally understand that you don't want to engage too much regarding my muddle.

I hope you can make it to Friday feast tomorrow - I definitely plan to be there.

You mentioned the term "integrative psychiatry" in one of your posts. I'm not familiar with that term, but I will suss it out.

How have you and Mr Darcy been travelling? The weather has been beautiful here in Sydney. That has helped me with riding the waves. I have spent a LOT of time lying in the sun over the past two weeks. My loungeroom is a real sun trap in the morning so I've been lying on the floor there a lot, and then in the afternoons I've been migrating out to the backyard. I find that lying in the sun definitely helps more than lying in bed.

Anyway, I hope to see you at Friday feast tomorrow.

Enjoying sun through windows is one of life's simple pleasures @Phoenix_Rising, I am sure the cats would have been vying for space with you. Going to some advocacy training tomorrow all being well, hope to make it to Friday feast; it has not been the same without you.

Hi @Former-Member,

I didnt realise the 'teenage mutant ninja turtles' were also musical artists? 😉

@NotLabelDefined you would be surprised what hidden talent is lurking inside that shell.

Re: Recognition for the work that carers do

Hi @Former-Member,

My violin playing is going super well. I have just started book 4 this week which is super exciting because books 1-3 are considered "beginner" and then books 4-7 are "intermediate" so I feel like I've gone from my L-plates to my P-plates. The piece I'm learning is "Concerto No. 2 in G Major, Op. 13, 3rd Mvt." If you do a search of youtube for that, you will find a whole lot of videos of people playing it so you can see what I'm up to. Most of the youtube videos are of annoyingly small kids who can play annoying better than me!

Thanks for taking an interest. How is your week going? I am still super struggling, but I just keep swimming.

I super love the picture of the turtle playing the violin. Really, @NotLabelDefined needs to have more belief in the awesomeness of turtles!

Hey @Phoenix_Rising

Had a listen to the concerto on you tube, definitely not L plate material.

Hope the puddy tats are OK. Our hounds are good.

Cleaning out the subzero refrigeration device today. One of our beef cattle is in situ at the butcher awaiting transfer to our freezer post dissection.

Went to some carer advocacy training, bit of an overview but did get some specific tips that are relevant to our present situation. One thing that was mentioned that as each individual chips away, change for the better can occur and to not be discouraged. Each voice takes out a small brick in a big wall and whilst it might not seem much, when enough small bits are removed, the wall will crack.

Keep swimming my little turtle ... it is hard when the waves are crashing around you and the shore seems a long way off.

@Phoenix_Rising
Thought of you today, had heaps of rain Friday night and our seasonal ponds filled up. This usually means the tuning up of the frogharmonic orchestra.

This term is taken from a children's book 'The musical life of Gustav Mole' where the frogs 'have a talent the rest of us can only dream about'.
