Don't make change too complicated, just begin.

Don't make change too complicated, just begin.

Dear All,

I thought about how to name this thread, how to share what I want to do. It's pretty easy, I want to change "something". I want to become a little better each day or at least keep heading in the right direction and I want to keep a log on here of what I think I did well for my wellbeing 🙂

Day 1: Signed up for the gym. Meditated 10min. Worked. Cooked a healthy dinner and packed brekkie & lunch. Slept 8hrs. Talked to my best friend and watched TV with my husband. Picked up book 8 keys to safe trauma recovery.

I'm not going to set a schedule or plan too far ahead. Life happens. I just want to embrace life and recognise the little changes I make.

I understand that I am responsible for myself. At least today 😉Tomorrow I might need a reminder 😊

What will you try tomorrow?

Oh no @Former-Member !
What happened?
Did it disappear when you pressed 'post'? Did you get an error message?

Hi @NikNik

I got an error message as I pressed post, something like a time-out or so. I've gone online on my laptop to check if there are any auto saved messages - no 😞

Hi all,

second try...

Day 3: my mood is still low 😞 after my meditation I did make a list at work, thanks @Former-Member for the tip, and got a few things done that didn't require much brain work. We had a work celebration this afternoon and did some simple word jumble and word searches, and I was gob smacked how bad my concentration is. So is my memory. My memory is shocking. Anyway, I went to see a friend after work and that was good, made me smile and feel happy, because my friend was so happy. At home I started a new painting project, only a trial, painting on a small canvas at the moment. Trying my hardest to stay off the wine, as I know it impacts on my medication... Not sure what to do now. I hadn't plan to start up my laptop, but I could do some bill paying while it's on... Or I just go to bed and sleep. I packed my bag for the gym already!

@Former-Memberit sounds like a hectic life with work and study, but it is great you are going for your masters! You definitely won't regret the hard work! What are you studying? How long does it take to do a master part time? Is it in a class room or online? I'm still old class-room style uni student, with the odd job, but never working full-time and having a blast during my uni years. My attendance in the class room was always highly effected by what else was going on in my life 🙂

@utopiaI am glad you had a nice day yesterday. You must have needed that long sleep! How did your appointment go? What sort of work are you trying to get back into? Did the appointment upset you? I find it difficult when I need to rate myself, I normally end up beating myself up too. Did you end up doing something nice during the day and did your mood lift?

Good night all x

NNNNNNOOOOOoooOOOOOO
How annoying. I'm so sorry that happened to you @Former-Member
I'm not quite sure what happened, but I'll log it and keep track of the issue.

Re: Don't make change too complicated, just begin.

@Former-Member. My something nice for myself - was I bought a block of Cadburys peppermint Chocolate (on sale).
Think I just woke up in a flat - depressed mood. Had an afternoon sleep. Had a fight with my mum (couldn't be avoided today). But have hung up my sons washing. And watched a little tv. Will read the local paper before going to bed.
Oh and I made an appointment to see my psychologist next week. So that will be good.
Tomorrow is a new day. Hopefully it will be a better day.
I hope yours is too.

Day 4 sees me in the dumps and beaten.

I made it to work, I took a walk at lunch time, I even ticked off some more items on the list I made yesterday, but then I breathe in and stop and wonder... I was told it's like peeling an onion when you work through trauma. The layer I uncovered last night has left me at a point where I consider to bury my past and stop whateve .I'm trying to achieve with therapy. I feel beaten.

Re: Don't make change too complicated, just begin.

@Former-Member this is where you might need to stop peeling the onion - just for a little while. Some layers have more 'sting' that other layers. So it might be wise to rest for w while here & take this one more slowly.
Nothing needs to be worked on today or this weekend. It is a weekend for rest from therapy.
Maybe aome painting this weekend or a walk through nature to get some inspiration or just to recharge.
Gentle does it.

Day 6

I am tired of fighting in my sleep, of being abused in my sleep of one nightmare after the other...

In real life i am tired of fighting, tired of fighting to stay positive, tired of fighting to keep a smile up, tired of fighting to do things that are good for me, tired of keeping up a routine, I am just so tired...

And then I get into trouble for trying to keep up a positive mindset because people feel excluded of my struggles and feel I don't let them in...

And then I realise people have their own problems too and I feel so selfish and then I get tired of being myself...

Re: Don't make change too complicated, just begin.

Hello there @Former-Member,

Wow that is a lot of fighting, it sounds like you are quite conflicted as to stay positive but at the same time not to be too strong so you let people in and not get in trouble. It must be hard finding a balance, and you mentioned you also find it tiring being yourslf. What aspects of your life do you find the most enjoyable or even the hardest?

Oh and to answer your question, I am extremely busy! I am doing my masters in counselling, I am like you I work part time and study part time which is 2 subjects over 3 years and placement as well. I am doing it old school on campus, I can't imagine how I would handle it online, I did one subject online in my undergrad it was soooo confusing and hard.

Thanks for the update, sorry it has been such a tough day ❤️
