Loss and Grief

Loss and Grief

@utopia

It is the upcoming anniversary of my Pop's death which I was reminded of by the anniversary of a death for someone else. It has brought back alot of memories and grief.

Combining that with some other stuff in 'the real world' - I haven't known what to do or where to go. It really felt like I was on my own and really alone again. I haven't coped with any of it at all well.

Re: Loss and Grief

@utopia I did go onto the helpline to discuss the issue and how I felt about it - then stayed off here for a couple of days as well.

Re: Loss and Grief

Do what I do @Zoe7. Don't respond to a particular person. If they tag you - don't open the thread. If they ask a question don't respond. I had to do that last year with a member. It sounds mean. But this person was a big trigger for me. And it's about self preservation.

Re: Loss and Grief

That is fair enough to feel wary, ive had similar feelings on the forums before too. Overall though i've found the forums to help me so much, and help me to grow in different ways.

But Number one is being able to look after yourself and being able to follow through with doing what you need to stay safe. Some times for me that has meant shutting the computer down quickly and doing something else. Seeking support/reassurance from those people on here who i have felt more comfortable with. I.e. just tagging someone else into a conversation who might be able to help. And also setting limits for myself, i.e. i turn off the puter and phone notifications at night now and won't look at them until morning so tht i wont be on here all night anymore 🙂

Have you talked to anyone about how the posts that really got to you made you feel irl?

Re: Loss and Grief

@Zoe7. Can you just stay on your coping thread this week? Friends can come to you there to chat with you.
Don't isolate yourself from something that has been a big support for you - this forum.

Re: Loss and Grief

@Former-Member Who am I going to talk to? Everyone I talk to is here and I haven't been able to be on here - and I can't talk openly as others can see what I write - and I really don't want to hurt anyone.

@utopia I won't be reading emails or posts if I don't know the content at the time!!

Re: Loss and Grief

sorry @Zoe7 I was thinking of your GP. There is also the SANE phone line during the day as well. Just worried that lots has been stirred up for you that you might need support with 😞 Hugs

Re: Loss and Grief

Yes that's not fair @Zoe7. People shouldn't tag others with triggering content. It's not right.
So stick with coping thread. Don't respond to that persons posts.
Now. To reduce your anxiety. What have you been doing to try and ground yourself?
Breathing exercises are still my favorite. Lol. I think people here get sick of me saying it - but with practice it can really reduce the severity of anxiety.

Re: Loss and Grief

@Former-Member I told my GP that someone affected me but I couldn't talk about what it was. I can't really talk to anyone about it - it really is too difficult to talk about it all - really stuck here - just need to get through and try to forget about it all.

Re: Loss and Grief

Nope it wasnt your fault at all @Zoe7 ! have read back over again now to look at what was edited (was a bit scared too but did want to see if it had been moderated).

I do want to say though that it is ok to leave a thread/conversation at any time, you dont have to explain why, you dont have to feel responsible for anyone at any time. You can answer a post, then leave it and come back to it a day later, or a week 🙂 Because that is keeping it manageable for you. And other people can jump in etc. You can tag someone to it , i.e. a community guide or a mod if you think the post needs more attention than its getting or another member who you think might have something in common with the situation as well (if you can think of someone I'm hopeless lol!). But please don't feel like you have to continue a conversation if its becoming too much. People online to a certain extent i think, expect communicaiton to be fast, slow, and everything in between so it's ok to take a break, stop.. even with out saying anything. Or you could say that you're going to bed, that you're going to make a cuppa, that y ou're going to spend some time on a lighter part of the forum, if you want to.

But none of the explicit description was your fault, though im sorry you were affected by it. You were a kind, thoughtful and responsive member of the forums and helped someone 🙂 But still gotta look after you 🙂
