Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@GezzaP depression can be really rough. I know mental illness was considered weakness and is still considered weakness in the older generations for my family. My parents would never go to therapy. My mum had significant mental health struggles when I was growing up, seeing a parent with SI as a teen wasn't a great experience. Neither of my parents have bipolar, so I don't think they get it. I don't think they realise how much I need my meds, it feels impossible to function without being medicated. My mum did say that my uncle had bipolar, he died on the younger side. He struggled with his mental health for a very long time and had physical health concerns too, he died from a stroke. I don't think my mum has bipolar, but she has experienced agitation during depressive episodes

My mum had bipolar. My dad had generalised anxiety disorder and depression @creative_writer . I have lots of other relatives with MI. My sister thinks she is perfect but she has a violent temper and is as stubborn as a mule so not sure she has escaped the MI.

@GezzaP mental illness runs in families, it definitely runs in my family. I do think my dad has anxiety. There is more mental illness on my mum's side of family. It is true that my parents are also distantly related, they're second cousins. I reckon there is quite a bit of neurodivergent traits in the mix. Even though my mum didn't develop bipolar, I reckon it's in her genetic pool. Some people say there is a bit of a spectrum with bipolar and major depressive disorder. She has definitely shown agitation traits during depressive episodes. I think her triggers are different to mine, she is more reactive to interpersonal triggers, and I'm more reactive to SA triggers

@creative_writer thanks for sharing. A lot of insight. Helps a lot to understand MI and how to manage.

@Meowmy insight takes years to develop, but it is so important in recovery. I hope you are doing okay this evening? 💖

Yes seems to run in families very strongly @creative_writer About to get in bed here. Was falling asleep watching TV. Puss is on the bed waiting for me to get in, Got up early this morning. I’m having cataract surgery next month (left eye) and in July (right eye). Luckily most of the cost is covered by my health insurance.

@creative_writer hey creative writer, I am going through a rough patch

I had a mentor for work when I was young for years. He was very supportive. Then I became independent of him for more than ten years. Recently he came to me to borrow large sum of money which I had to pay tax. He never gave it back to me. It's been more than two months. Today he said he hasn't got any money to pay me. A bit stressed. Guess I learn the hard truth ha

@GezzaP I’m in bed right now and I’m going to try to sleep soon. It’s helpful when insurance covers the costs. I do wish insurance covered more health costs and was affordable.

@Meowmy that does sound like a stressful situation to be in. It doesn’t sound fair either. Sending you hugs 💖🫂
