@creative_writer, ugh... I feel you about the mould. I wish I had a lot of cats near me, though!

I couldn't help being curious about your username... What do you enjoy writing? I love to write too - mostly poems, fiction and sometimes non-fiction. 🙂

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@WretchedKid mouldy winter is a thing here in Melbourne, it’s disgusting. Hopefully nothing grows back as we are approaching the cooler months.

Cats are free to roam around here, but they’re meant to have bells to prevent them from catching birds. Almost all the cats I see don’t have bells.

I’m more of a poet, I do want to get back into fiction because it’s been a long time since I’ve written fiction. I’ve been writing up assignments recently. Where do you get your inspiration from. I get inspiration from personal experience, experiences of others, music, fiction, nature etc. Inspiration comes from many places

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@creative_writer - The lack of heat should certainly help slow the process of mould growth down!

Ah, that's cute. My cat used to have a bell. ❤️

Oh, that is so cool! I love poetry. I've got books of Poe, Dickinson and the old Romantics I need to read at some point. Lately, I too, have been leaning towards this.

My inspiration comes from personal experiences, music, nature, abstract concepts, things I find fascinating and want to decode... I've lately gotten into a habit of expressing myself through excerpts of poetry/song lyrics. It's really helped me come across some nice new poets.

Do you like reading poems as well as writing? What kinds of things do you often write about?

@WretchedKid it gets damp in Melbourne during winter, our summers are relatively dry.

I love cats, they leave imprints forever in your heart 💖.

I do also enjoy poetry, it can be a source of inspiration. I also find spiritual based poetry beautiful. Maybe it’s because I feel like I’m in a spiritual crisis in this point in time.

Do you play any musical instruments? I used to play piano but I’ve completely forgotten how to play lol 🙃

Thought you were depressed

@creative_writer

i enjoyed my spud. Got cat in 30 minutes ago then ate my spud had it with butter cheese, cottage cheese, chives and salt and pepper. Love spuds even though I know this is not really healthy. Had Chinese for lunch. So not a particularly healthy diet today. Never mind. I like to enjoy my food. Will make silverbeet and feta in filo pastry tomorrow.

i’m hypomanic but for the first time in a week I’m not irritable. In a good mood today and was able to walk twice and watered the garden. Also did some Spanish lessons online.

I’m sorty your depressed. Do you have any strategies to deal with it? If you have a chat with beyondblue they will send you some links on dealing with depression.

@creative_writer - Oh, wow. Melbourne out here sounding like a mini England, lol. You're right about the cats. 🐈‍

Spiritual poetry? Do you mind elaborating as I'm curious, haha.

I greatly wish to! I have a few instruments (literally) that I want to learn, but they're sitting around the house as yet... I got a keyboard recently, but co-ordinating both hands has been tricky.

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@GezzaP nothing wrong with treating yourself. I know healthy eating is often praised, but if someone was to eat healthy all the time, it can become obsessive.

Hypomania can be weird, irritability can be a part of it. I feel like some people underestimate the its impacts. I’ve had moments when I wanted to get off meds and I behaved in not so good ways.

My psychologist has given me some strategies, like grounding, thought diffusion. My cptsd flares up when I am depressed. I do reach out through chat if I feel like I need to talk to someone.

@WretchedKid Melbourne is not the most fun place to be in winter, but it isn’t as bad as England, thankfully.

I’m Muslim, so I do find myself drawn to Islamic poetry. I feel like I’m in the phase in my life where I’m feeling confused and lost, and it’s been hard.

Once you get the hang of it, playing a keyboard gets easier, it’s about perseverance and practice

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

I’m totally rigid about taking my meds no way will I even contemplate not taking them no matter how manic @creative_writer .

My main problem when manic is buying crap goods online. I have linked all payments to my daily account card not my credit card in order to overcome this problem. I’m working on stopping this problem. I can’t afford it. I now chuck catalogues I receive in the mail straight in the recycling bin. I only buy small things for puss and some gardening things now. So I’m slowly overcoming this particular problem.

i have a busy week coming up with 5 appts. Two are phone appts and I can walk to other 3 appts. If not raining.

i hope you can overcome depression. I find listening to music helpful and also playing the guitar and the charrango. I’m ok with guitar but rusty since haven’t played much lately. I’m ok at charango. I like it. A charrango is a small South American instrument with 10 double strings. I like the music and poetry of Leonard Cohen a Canadian who suffered from depression. I also like Alice Cooper who based an album on time he spent in an asylum.

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@GezzaP I was clearly not thinking back then. I took my meds back then for the most part, but I was beginning to feel like my meds were there to control me. It didn’t help with my relationships with my supports. I’m sure I frustrated the GP, I ended up switching GPs later. I wasn’t super well but thought I was doing great because I was feeling confident and euphoric (but I was also irritable). I’ve brought stuff I needed when I was manic too, even though it frustrated my parents back then. I was an undergrad student who was depending on parents for financial support.

I didn’t know you could play guitar and charango

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 9th May 2026

@creative_writer - Oh, I see. I don't personally have experience with Islamic poetry, but it's great if you find it's speaking to you. I hope your situation gets better soon.

Ah, isn't that the case with all instruments? I gotta work on my perseverance a little more, but thanks for the reassurance!
