Something’s not right

NDIS Changes

NDIS Changes

I'm worried about the recent NDIS Changes. I have autism stage 2 for some parts of life with things like support worker, psychologist, OT, speech therapist and art therapy and one recreational activity in the arts at a place where I get support in a group. I do everything by the book and use it as intended. Has real benefit over the last few years in my life.

Here is the news:

I am so worried. Is anyone else worried?

Something is not right and why so vague from Government?

AI - great. Can we trust AI assessments, since AI hallucinates and is only 70% accurate in comparison as humans of 90-99% accuracy, thats very concerning that AI will assess. Must be empty promises form corporations promising AI can solve it. I all for AI but that needs years of testing and better accuracy level than current AI.

@DogMan79 @megamike @Dimity @tyme if this catches the crims i am all for it but like typical gov style they are attacking it with a sledge hammer approach not softly softly. scaring people who are vulnerable. i have the most awful feeling about this like what happened in wa with the family of the autistic children who were knocked back re ndis and the parents took the matters into their own hands because they were so depressed. that occurance has gone really quiet .... no one in the press is talking about that. i predict there will be other desperate people who will do exactly the same thing.

as for my family i am trying not to worry about it because quite frankly it is out of my hands regardless.

Re: NDIS Changes

@Bunniekins Thanks for sharing. Glad you have a family. I have the NDIS to help me as I don't have any family. They distanced themselves over time and I only surround myself with friends who love and respect me.

I just spoke with my support coordinator abd they said to avoid reading the media and not listen to influencers, reolls and nasty disability haters and even not listening to too much of advice in forums as they will phase this in by 2028.

And yes they will require registration by next year to 90% of service providers. Thats good. And require those providers use NDIS new digital payments system that will have verification work done to receive payment etc. Thats good. By 2028 they will start phasing everyone using AI based functional assessments system then with a human assessor. Thats the part thats grey. Easier said than done.

The first group will be transitioning is children with stage 1 autism to Thriving Kids which is almost up and running. Hopefully the needed supports will continue for them.

Someone like me with stage 2 autism needs may still receive supports as Im in my 40s and its a permanent disability according to research hard to do a lot of early intervention. I wish I didn't have the disability and could live a normal life, vut ndis has helped me live a more normal life.

I consider myself fortunate that Im in Australia because many countries dont even consider autism as anything. Science says otherwise. We will see how they implement their so called science based assessments etc.

Hi @megamike i have autism level 2 as well and I absolutely hear you regarding the new NDIS reforms. It’s absolutely completely messed up that the government is imposing these stupid and ableist laws that will do damage for participants like us. I see my OT and support workers as part of my NDIS supports for a reason. I’m also glad to be in a country like Australia because like you said many other countries out there don’t consider autism as anything

Re: NDIS Changes

What a very interesting thread @Dimity @megamike @DogMan79 @Bunniekins . It's long been needed. NDIS has completely blown out of proportion.

With the new functional capacity assessments, does that just mean assessors will go deeper and deeper into using a deficit model so that it focuses on all the things you can't do in order to get NDIS?

A lot of kids under 7 without a diagnosis have the early intervention package. This all adds up. So any kid with a global developmental delay etc has access to these funds which I think it really important as part of early intervention.

I don't know where all this will go. @megamike , I hear your concerns. It's sounds so stressful. @Bunniekins , I also agree that it catches the crims out there who pray on the vulnerable for their funding money. I see it all the time. It's terrible - and then it punishes all those who are doing the right thing.

Keep sending in your thoughts. Feel free to tag me in because I'm super interested in the direction this goes.

Re: NDIS Changes

@tyme @megamike and everyone I've read the functional algorithms for amount of funding in aged care and ndis will be based on rating scales of 1-5 re degree of difficulty in doing tasks and activities. Personally I'd find that really hard - to me it's more binary, either you need help with an activity or you don't. The only other metrics then would be frequency and duration. And sliding scale ratings would be easy to game...

@DogMan79 @No the States and Territory have not the money for what’s actually needed or the workforce.
