Welcome and getting started

PTSD and BPD

PTSD and BPD

Hi I’m new here, I’m 21 years old. I have recently been diagnosed with Complex-PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. I was informed about this website that it may help me with what I’m struggling with. I’m battling a lot and when I try to explain how I’m feeling and my needs, family members are just not understanding and I feel like they are diminishing my feelings and thoughts and are telling me that my diagnosis is only for me to reflex on and not for others.

Re: PTSD and BPD

Hi EJ250625KJ,
A warm welcome to SANE forums!

I’m glad you reached out. It takes a lot of courage and incredible strength to share what you’re going through, especially after receiving diagnoses like Complex PTSD and BPD.

Sorry to hear that your family hasn’t been understanding leaving you feeling unheard. Feeling dismissed or minimised can be incredibly painful.

Your feelings and experiences are valid, and to some degree your diagnoses help explain how you experience the world — it is reasonable to want to understand and support from those around us, especially family.

You deserve to be heard and taken seriously. You’re not alone. We sit with you with compassion in our hearts on this forum, and there is wonderful support from peers who may be walking different parts in some ways, however, in other ways have had similar experiences.

I encourage you to continue sharing, receiving and offering peers support of the forums. Please be gentle with yourself as you navigate all of this.

Once more, welcome to SANE forums!
Warm regard,
AltZing-Connect (moderator)

Re: PTSD and BPD

Hey @EJ250625KJ

I wanted to wish you a warm welcome to the forums! I am so glad you found your way here, though I am sorry to hear how much you have been battling lately 💚

Receiving diagnoses like CPTSD and BPD can feel like a bit of a double-edged sword; it can offer a sense of relief to finally have the language for what you're experiencing, but it can also feel so overwhelming to process.

It sounds so incredibly isolating to reach out to your family for understanding, only to feel diminished or told your diagnosis "is only for you." While a diagnosis is indeed a tool for your own reflection and healing, it is also a vital piece of context for the people in your life. It is a description of how your mind and heart navigate the world around you, not just a private "label", and you deserve for that to be respected.

Please know that in this space, your feelings are not too much, and they are certainly not something you have to keep tucked away. Many people here, including myself, understand that "invisible" struggle of trying to bridge the gap between what you need and what your family is able (or willing) to see.

Take your time settling in on here. We're all here to listen to you whenever you're ready to share more. I'm wondering how you're holding up today? 💚

Re: PTSD and BPD

Hey @EJ250625KJ ,

That sounds so challenging. I know first hand what you are referring to as I have lived experience of BPD/CPTSD.

You are doing the best you can to survive. You are doing what you can to manage the emotional roller coasters that come with BPD. You are not alone.

BPD is very treatable. After recieving the diagnosis, have you been linked in with any supports?

You deserve to be heard and supported.

For me, connecting with like minded people and sharing my experiences was very helpful. Recovery was a long and difficult journey, but it was totally worth it.

I'm in a much much better place now.

It's not about the diagnosis or label, but how you work with it, that matters.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
