Hi all. I am new to this space and reaching out to anyone that has an adult child with BPD traits or diagnosis. My daughter has not been officially diagnosed but has many of the identified traits. For the first time in my life I have had to reach out for help for myself after a recent episode of intense anger and hatred she directed towards me. The psychologist whom I spoke with was actually the one who identified the traits. The background is very complicated, however part of my current concerns is around maintaining contact with my grandchildren (6y.o and 16y.o) who live with her, using supportive and positive interactions while not being "disrespectful" to their mother.
In addition my daughter has a long history of complex physical health issues requiring me on many occasions to be the carer for the children and advocate for my daughter, as she has no close friends, or positive relationships with other family members, and no partner. During that time have I provided a great deal of support, including physical, emotional and financial. And I have no doubt this will be needed again in the future. The only people she appears to love and care for are deceased (grandparents) and her children. She has totally disconnected herself from any communication or interaction with me other than the occasional abusive hatred text or post on social media (about myself, my husband - not her father - and her sister).
I am at a loss as to how to cope with this both now and for the long term without experiencing ongoing worry about her and her children or feeling like I am abandoning her and the associated guilt with that.
I look forward to having some conversations with anyone who has travelled (and is continuing to travel) this journey with a close relative.Thank you for taking the time to read this very small part of something has had a huge impact on me
