Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

@mrmista Life comes at you. It doesn’t pause, it doesn’t stop to let you reassess. It gives you limited information and time.

Every single person views life differently. Perspective is a culmination of how you were raised, culture, beliefs and what society has taught you.

No persons’ journey through life is harder or easier than another - it’s not a competition.

The only sure thing in life is change. We control nothing except ourselves.

Fortunately as humans we have the ability to learn, change, and create, ourselves and our environment.

Look at you @mrmista You are controlling your actions. Marking out your project, you are creating adapting and changing your environment.

I keep saying. Change begins with me.

😁 LOL @mrmista I love that you said “Plonk”.
When you’re ready post a photo of your design markup.

So we can all enjoy creativity in process 😃

@Glisten

ahh thx for the interest but nah, better not for now though. Point was that l just can not for the life of me make the decision on even bothering, or not, staying.

Though l won't be doing another one if l don;t do this one l'd prob just go rent something.

But bloody hell, one day l'm all for it very next it's nope, don't wanna stay here.

lf l had a choice or was a bit fresher ofc that'd be all you needed, not good if you can't decide something's wrong, l know. l'd sell up and go somewhere else.

Done too much of that though in the past as l say, last one.

@mrmista the rental market is the definition of Hell.
My family are the only people I know who love where they live and their respective homes.

I’m the only one who ended up homeless. But that’s not uncommon for women over the age of 50.

Ah @Glisten Glisten .

So sorry to hear it, hope one day you have your castle.

l feel sooooo much for the mad mad housing situation in this country now, it makes me sick to the stomach . Had hopes for this Gov but they've literally doubled it, don't get me started, it's just so wrong.

What about social housing, any of that interest you or ?

But eh, when l say l'd just sell up and go somewhere else, even if l could sell it l'd be really really hard pressed to find anything in a better spot than this l could actually afford anyway. That's why this place is so cheap coz of where it is you see .

DUnno if l mentioned it but this was just a little block ex w and l bought 18yrs ago, was only spose to be an investment, not to ever live on we lived 100k away never would've dreamed of living here.

Buttttttt, things took a bad dive later on andddd, here l am.

Don't think l could even hack a whole selling rebuying even if l could, starting another.

lf l could afford a house yeah could handle moving that way but there's nothing even close to anything l could afford.

lt'd have to be another v cheap block somewhere and l'd have to build a tiny house or something, be all l could manage.

That's the maddest thing, or maybe l'm just the mad thing, especially with the housing crisis in this country.

lf l just stayed here and went ahead, it all just goes away. wouldn't even have to work.

The isolating and depression though, just dk. Maybe that passes, maybe l get happy. God knows.

Hi @mrmista we talked in another thread. didnt realise it was you . Yeah best to make the most of it. houses are only worth the next house you can buy with it and for me that would nt be much.I got a steal 3years ago for $140k, site claims its $250k now. ok most of that is over last 6 mths as people look wider and wider and 3rd choice with commute becomes home.

Home is individual . Its not the Block (spew) its whatever you make it

4 walls , door to close. Ive got a huge yard and a cat now. and a list of to-do's that will never end. ,..reminds me, bin is out and washing on line (8pm) lol

today I got rid of some car tyres and found out what to do with car radiator and fuel can

also got rid of deposit cans to charity and new clothes didnt fit to charity bin. and found kindling on foot path as my reward lol

keep your options open , dont overr commit. but it becomes forever place then can make it even more apt and comfortable
