Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

Bloody car has an engine light on - gvme a fkg break. l know it's not serious and can still be driven for this one - so AI reckons he knows what it is bc of the number but it's all serviced and very loved so hopefully it's right and not much at all. Was 300k k trip home when it's been living in the city , plus about 200k since, shook a little something up. l could fix it myself if l want from the sounds but l'll take it to someone, bit of a shyt though. It's ok to drive don't wanna go far though now until it's fixed just encase.

Yeah hope so mate jesus, Only have AI to ask bc trying to get a mechanic round here's like winning lotto. Nearest one's 30k away and only works a few days a wk. Prob nothing but with bloody cars these days never know wth do ya. lt's only an 012 not going newer than that from here , better off with something like your trusty com man, the tech in them especially newer than mine now is mad, even in this one.

Spose you've got the batcave car park to help with anonymity a bit there. in a way having no shops here sort of helps a bit in those ways, l reckon you've really gotta be a small town type to cope with using shops in them if they do have. l've swapped post offices from here over to another town 20k over, nice little place actually too. But all we do have is the post office here don't think l'll ever be comfortable using that thing though there's usually a wait and 5 or 10 locals out front talking and inside.Unfortunately l hate that thing yeah, using the other one now's been great. Got a few good shops there and bakeries too so l can wander in and out and no one knows wth l am, like that.

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

let RAC be your friend @mrmista cant be in the country without it

one nullabor trip staked a tyre without realising it, went on track to look at bight, were exposed roots

so basically got 2flats in a row memory bit blurry . sat on side of road waiting for good enough car to hail down as no phone near wirrulla. was 30ks west of wudinna when ran last tyre went ok cos spare not checked in years was stuffed plus flat

anyway , local bank manager dropped me at tyre place, they finished what doing drove 30ks to get tyres, 30ks back, fitted tyres to rims, drove 30ks to car, put tyres on then they had to drive 30ks back so like 120ks and just paid full price for 2 tyres not sure got charged anything else.

Yeah good idea mate, daughter talked me into the old rac when l was caravanning so got it on the other car might swap it over. Anyway good news is found an old school mechanic on the way up to the main town today. Wanders out with his tester fiddles with a few things, boom no more light. Took about 2mins. Don't like all these flashing bloody engine codes ran by silly computers they put out on cars now, way overdo.

Anyway mate there's one local for you anyway, good one. Gonna givem a chance here some seem pretty good actually though l know the gossip will fly with others. very nice over in that other little town.

Only been across the nullabor once, back packing when l was 19, whata laugh that was classic trip, whole bunch of us miss fits all wound up in the guys car that picked me up - nother story.

Have a good one.

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Yeah true.

  • Getting used to motel and traffic plus 4 day week
  • Prob here another month at least keep at it with house. Best stay away from neighbours?

Getting used to it. Big learning curve

On boarding hopeless

All word of mouth, some don't know or can't explain. Still got questions. Bosses always away at conferences
