Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

@mrmista Nah. He did not leave any and I did not want any. I had enough by then. He left 2 primary aged children behind. They have grown up now. For me. I had a rich brother and a poor brother, but we all had serious childhood abandonment and they both died young. So it left me mainly with the message that money doesn't buy happiness or even life. Money matters and not having enough when needed, (as in when little kids) matters, but its not the answer. Life is more complicated. Somehow my job seems to be keeping some sense of family going.

My other brother rode a kwaka from Melbourne to Darwin. Think it was a KZ650? Bike was stuffed and he came home by train. He was more arty and practical but didn't make big bucks, like the younger one. He did it to memorialise our father who had served in Melvin Island Naval Base. Actually his first born son was here doing music all day with my son. They just went out for a drive. No,motorbikes didnt catch on with the younger folk but they love music. Stopped in the family in the 1980s. Just teens'early 20s. Yeah. loved me pushbike too.

I didn't ride pillion much. Mostly had me own bike. @mrmista Had to take a 6'3" dude on the back once. Poor bike and me felt his weight.

Yeah, they are really not making things like they used ta. Can be very frustrating...

@Appleblossom

Yeah right , l've got 5 brothers, so 6 of us. A few are wealthy , some just comfortable enough, comfortable enough is good enough for me. One up in QLD wouldn't work in an iron lung earlier but into late 40s he started a business now he's a very wealthy and works his arse off with 50things at once. You'd never believe it if you knew him 20yrs ago. like me, he just needed to find and do things his way. Ah, another weird thing with him, 50s and he'd never really ever had not even one real relationship but now he's married 4yrs and they're almost glued at the hip. He's a mad bike man, that's his business to actually, loves motor bikes.

He's a good bloke, good heart, good to talk to.

One's a druggo, lives in a council flat, hasn't worked in 30yrs, the others are married and comfortable.

Thx for the tips man , God l hate shopping for clothes. Down Melb though l'd be just in a plaza for something see good stuff on special and grab whatever, always had good clothes. Doesn't work like that in my town up here though, l def' should start taking notice again in plazas, kinda lost that knack and aren't in them often up here either the main one's about 10bloody k long inside, feels it anyway, can't be bothered with it. Love opp shops too but they're usually 90% women stuff and mens is a tiny little corner up the back. Was a bad habit to get into opp shopping really can't help myself though just enjoy it and love the surprises in them, never know what you come across. Furniture and nick knacks

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

@mrmista Wow - 6 boyz! Good luck to all your bros. I tend not to get too judgie budgie cos I have seen too much. Yeah! We all have different paths.

I lived in Housing Commission flats from 10-16, but me parents were'nt druggos or drinkers. lol. I thought I was rich when we moved there! Shows how much I know. lol.

We can get philosophical in a bushie kinda way.

I used to love op shopping and worked in them and retail, and many workplace sectors... I just got too much stuff to be bothered about shopping, in the last 10 years. Just do food, and necessities as they pop up. Had a moment in me local supermarket yesterday. I finally found Singer Sewing Machine Oil. Some dont stock it anymore, but its good agin rust. So my bike mechanics dayz hold me in good stead. lol. But I am also a girrrrlll. I love me old stuff... prefer it to fancy new s**t. lol

@TAB cheers

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

@TAB , Haa 4 thongs, classic, your set. Never go into target but ok will check it out. Like Lowes, seem to have good stuff. Down town always bought from all the jean and surf shops so good stuff you'd just check sale signs passing, good system . Doesn't work up here though. How's the house going anyway Tabman, been happy ?

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

@TAB, No shit , l thought your were a bloke, bloody internet, mad sometimes isn't it. Your not messin right ?

Anyway nah not judging that bro in that way but more he's just a mad personality. Tbh , wouldn't even mind social housing myself really and just forget all this property stuff. My ex's in Syd was really nice . Cert woudn't hold it against anyone they might even be smarter than me haha c properties a pain in the arse. Let someone else do all the worrying right. At anyway you were just a kid man, it's about our family not financial status. Spose l was in a way blessed but that had it's curses to. Dad had businesses, we had our place in Melb but also hobby farms for the wkends too, was a weird life really compared to mates and the more norm.
