Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

@TAB

Hey mr TAB , thx for that.

Oh nooo, not the septic , hope it didn't send you broke mate. But anyway yeah still around just have this login thing so if l disappear not being rude l'm prob just locked out again 😂

Nice of you to help them out anyway btw to man.

Sorry don't get the running away from people l put my stuff on thing, l might be a bit slow tonight ha ha .

Who bought 5 houses btw ? Tell you what , saw the other day what they reckon , "dreamin" l think , is the median house price of my town , whata bloody joke but eh wish l had a couple to sell off then here if they're right l'd have thought it'd be half what they reckon.

Been tryin to save like hell so l can at least get something if this one goes.

So nope, no interstate holidays for me but l love it up the Murray and they have a beautiful winter so that'll do me if l do go. Kinda feel like l should stick around but really there's nothing to stick around for and nah don't have to be here prob better if l'm not really and these drive by's are a real pain to so , shall see.

How's your place goin anyway well, apart from septics ?

Roof still on and not leaking after storms @mrmista front and back yards covered in weeds. Not watered lemon trees in over a month as been raining. Contractors came to empty septic they said must have lid off etc I'm like wat lid. Had 2 1.5x1 metre slabs. Guy came to lever it . Asked if it was original one. He said yes so it's prob had it and they might charge me for accessing it as well. Think small one new is around $3k plus installation haha no idea who's buying. Places near here reno special houso houses

Bloody septics eh yeah actually you made me remember the guy doing mine back at my house, lid trouble too.

But he got the hose down there somehow and emptied it so l said fkit just chuck whatever that is back on 😂. Before he gave me all these horror stories of prices but t worked like a charm after that .

Weirdest thing was, he actually stuck he's head in there to see what was going on , crikey, hope he's well paid.

Does your weeds and grass grow much this time of yr, goes crazy on this place. Only trouble with taking off , in a few wks it'll be 2ft high again and look really shyt.

Mine works better than when I moved in @mrmista once watched wat putting down drain. Doesn't rain much here in general . Soursobs front , marshmallows out back. Grow quick.

Council emptied septic every 3 years. It's connected to town scheme where they pinch my water and I keep solids. Made from brick. Box with a fence(weir) in it to let only fluids out. So it was working fine, they're just on a schedule

Yeah right @TAB , sounds like a classic haven't seen one like that. The cabin here is all on caravan stuff so a composting loo.

Anyway, not sure about taking off for winter but weighing it up. Feeling pretty unsettled and a bit messed up from all this moving about last 18mths,so on one hand kinda needing to just stop tbh. And on that hand thinking well the cabin is the only place l have to just stop for awhile might be better for me just staying put,

Did look around over where l'm thinking of moving to for something there but really cheapest option so that l can keep saving was just a caravan park. Not that there was much else to choose from anyway it's a disgrace what's happening.

There's so many people doing van life now with the housing crisis, younger and older , men and women. There's a whole nother world and life going out there on most have no idea about . Mind you some are just living that way bc they like it but others there's no choice.

For me l really enjoyed it for most of that time but yeah, feeling a bit unsettled lately so ldbloodk.

Then again those, does have it's offsets bc once your settled in a beautiful spot up on the Murray- lot of free camps up there all along, you can just do nothing and in some ways just live in a way like a king really holidaying on the river for as long as you want and to hell with it and the bs of whatever life hassles your going through back at whereever. Very therapeutic tell ya.

sounds good re camps @mrmista I ve done years in site vans now of 4 years in total at least. most women run a mile if find out you live in van park, and neighbours not exactly real world functional . was cheap tho.

@TAB

Yeah, l hear ya. Not a dream come true that's for sure trouble was there was literally nothing else that wasn't some ridiculous price over there. Can't bring myself to part with the money sooo, got to thinking about maybe a van park just for a stint.

But yeah the free camps are unreal, some are really nice and with every kind of people to which l love. They're all over Aus now, well the lower parts anyway dunno about the rest, best thing the place has ever done.

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Did ya , yeah, l mean l'd imagine some of them wouldn't be bad. Seen a few of their cabins and whathaveyou for sale, good option for some that don't mind the life right park l reckon. Built in company around and stuff for them too right place.

But that's it to l don't wanna go signing leases or setting up like that just some quick and simple walk in walk out thing. Couldn't really thunk of anything else you can get so easy butttt, might be other things dunno.

lt was just a thought really, just a simple way of just getting a bit of a start and try out over in the area l'm thinking about .

Mind you too, l'm back at the cabin atm so if l don't feel like taking off later could just stay here to so anyway, see what happens l spose.
