New here. Need a bit of advice
Hi there. I’m 42 and have always struggled with things since I was a kid in primary school. It’s only been in the last 4-5 years that I had a cognitive assessment done and it shows an extremely high possibility of me having ADHD. I was also told I have GAD.
I haven’t had a formal diagnosis for ADHD, as I’m on jobseeker payment and can’t afford thousands of dollars. I was relieved when I learned that GP’s in Queensland were going to be finally able to diagnose and treat adhd.
Only the thing is, my GP (who I’ve had for about 20 years or more) isn’t able to do this as some organisation hasn’t released some type of form or whatever so they can take this special course for it.
im wondering if anyone else in QLD has been able to get a GP yet to diagnose their adhd. It just seems like such an uphill battle, especially for adults with adhd. I feel that there is literally zero support for adults that have yet to be formally diagnosed. We’re missing out on treatment that could be the saving grace on getting and/or holding onto a job. Because there’s no help from Centrelink, who it seems would rather put drugs addicts onto the DSP than people who actually need/deserve it.
sorry if I’m venting a lot but I’ve recently had a death in the family and like that wasn’t traumatic enough, another family member has decided to be a turd burger to both me and my mum, and I haven’t been coping well at all. Upside is, at least this time with my GAD I know what caused my latest lot of consecutive panic attacks -_-
