Need help moving on from a past relationships

Need help moving on from a past relationships

I broke up with my ex boyfriend and am veering on the 6 month mark now.
We tried to adhere to the no contact rule, but for some reason I stuck around even after. After dating him for about 1.5 years, and towards the 2 year Mark, things started to get messy after he encouraged me to see a counsellor for some things I had been stressing over (namely my job and past relationships). In retrospect though, I know that he did care? Because he still stuck around to be a friend. And as someone who would listen as I spoke.

it was my first relationship and so I didn’t know my own boundaries, particularly with males. After time away, I realised that why the relationship wasn’t working was because I could not open up to him about my past.

Mainly that, I had a very toxic relationship with my father growing up and so the stress from that resulted in me having a stroke in my young age.

I had moved away from home to be with this guy and when I moved interstate and attended one of his badminton games, I was taken aside by two other members in his club who had shown me screenshots of messages between himself and the girl, talking about my medical condition, flirting and showing her images of me.

I have moved away since then to breathe and have some time to think but being back with my parents, particularly my dad has rekindled the old negative emotions that I had even growing up.

being back though, I do have a goal to save more money so that I can move out of home sooner and have a place of my own.

If anyone has any tips or advice to stay motivated and keep good mental health then I would really appreciate ☺️

I am keeping my head up but sometimes it’s all too difficult too, particularly when being back in my own home it is easy to resort to old patterns where I try to re-build the bridge with my father in my little ways, but every time I try to, it just ends up with me being unfocused and stressed out again.

Hey there @chaitealover99

Thank you for sharing. It sounds like you have been through a lot in the past 6 months or so.

I can see you want things to improve, but perhaps don't know where to start?

Reading your post, I can see there are different aspects you want to improve which is totally okay. At the same time, I wonder if it's easier to just focus on one aspect at a time? Whether it be housing, finances, relationships, support around your past.

The fact that you have even come here to post is a start. Good on you for reaching out. It takes a lot of bravery to do so.

Not sure if you are already linked in, but SANE RecoveryClub will be taking new registrations towards the end of this month. It may be an opportunity for you to work 1:1 with a recovery faciliatator and focus on a goal? You can get regular updates about the Recovery Club here: https://www.sane.org/recovery-club

What do you think is the main goal you want to work on? You can perhaps the unpack this goal and break it down into smaller achieveable goals?

We look forward to hearing from you.
