Ceasing the "last chance" medication

Ceasing the "last chance" medication

Hi, first post here. I have recently come off a certain "last chance" antipsychotic after ten long years, and I have been in trouble since. First, I had the full physical and mental rebound, then issues with finding a suitable medication. I have been in and out of hospital for six months. I think I'm on the right track now with the help of a good doctor and TMS. My point is, has anybody successfully come off this medication (if you know what it is) and seen the life beyond? Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

Hi @Musicgirl

I just wanted to welcome you to the forums. I am sorry that you have had a long struggle after coming off medication. I have finally found an anti psychotic that works for me. Everyone is different and different things work for different people. I wish you luck in finding that little magic pill that works for you

Hi @Musicgirl

I am so sorry you've had such a rough six months - being in and out of the hospital while managing a physical and mental rebound is incredibly taxing. It's a huge testament to your resilience that you've pushed through to find a path that includes TMS and a supportive doctor.

While the 'last chance' medication can feel like a safety net, many people find that there is absolutely a life beyond it. It often takes time for the brain to find its new baseline, but the light at the end of the tunnel is the clarity and stability you are working toward right now. Hang in there; you've already done the hardest part.

Hey @Musicgirl

Thank you for sharing. Welcome to the forums.

If you don't mind me asking, did the doctor support you with tapering off your medication?

I've been on meds for over 20 years, and I've had to resign to the fact that I may need them for life in order to live the fullest life I can, despite the side effects.

Hey @tyme

I hate taking medication but I too will need them for a lifetime. Kind of sucks but at least I am well because of it. Hopefully this good patch continues.

And to be honest, I think if most have the choice, they wouldn't take meds... but the fact of reality is that sometimes, we really just have to accept that we need to take them for life @Oaktree I'm also in that boat.

I'm managing so well that I can't risk not taking meds. It's just not worth it.
