Job Search!

Job Search!

Hi guys,

This thread is for all those searching for a job. A place to share challenges as well as successes. I am currently out for the evening but I will come back and talk about my recent job application later tonight. Please feel free to tag other members. @tyme

@AuntGlow

I have decided not to pursue a job at this time because I am studying. If this changes I will let you know

@AuntGlow

Thanks for your inspiring and kind words.

It was a good interview, and I felt it was well structured. I felt much calmer and more confident, having done a few interviews now. I ended up receiving an offer, however, I had to turn it down once again. I feel quite sad about this because, although I felt a tiny spark of excitement about the role, I knew deep down it wasn’t the right decision.😓

My decision was based on the shift work, including semi-night shifts. This wasn’t mentioned in the phone interview, so it came as a surprise during the face-to-face interview. At first, I thought it wouldn’t be a problem, but then I realised that I take sleep medication and really need consistent routines in my life. If my sleep gets disrupted, everything else becomes a nightmare.

I really wanted this to be the job I was looking for, but I’ll have to keep searching. On the positive side, they were happy I communicated my decision early, so they could move forward with someone else. In the end, I guess I made their process easier and my own as well. And I still got the event job, it's not much but it's something at least. I got a shift tomorrow. 😊

Re: Job Search!

I take day time as well as night time medication and realised I can't stop at work to drink my medications so unfortunately there are jobs I can't apply for as well. It always slips my mind though, that any shift work could include night shifts.

Good thing you turned it down if you already have Insomnia. I have Insomnia too and take sleep medication infrequently. Our energy levels are dependant upon good sleep, so no point having a job if you don't have enough energy for it..

Thank you for sharing and your supporting words. I appreciate it. It's very true, it just wasn't meant to be this time either I guess. How are you going at this stage?

Re: Job Search!

In between job searching and attending interviews, I am waiting on my Service Provider to give me a job. I am on Jobseeker Payment. We've sent several Resumes/CVs around to some really nice sounding Employers except none of them will organise a job interview with me. We don't know what is wrong. It is very frustrating because they are supposed to accept me to receive Wage Subsidy from the Government.

Is anybody else still on Jobseeker Payment and not the DSP? Or if you are on the DSP, do you work with a Service Provider to help you look for a job?

Thank you for updating me. @Oaktree

How is study feeling at the moment?

I have some workshops for study this week! We're on the study train together hehe 💛

Re: Job Search!

Thanks for the update @SaltwaterSoul .

I hope you find something that works for you.

You're right in saying that it's important to tell them early. I wonder if any of these places will be willing to adjust their expectations if they really want you on board?

I remember I was going to turn down a job once, but after speaking to the hiring manager, they allowed me to go home early on certain days. That was the agreement for me working there.

Re: Job Search!

I start a 2 week job trial next Monday! Hopefully I pass all the tests so that I can be hired permanently! I can feel the butterflies in my stomach!

The job is for a printing factory that specialises in printing on glass and ceramics. Phew! Back to the Design industry.

Re: Job Search!

I've finished my first day of work (yesterday)! I can't believe I was allowed to sit down all day! What a privilege it is! It was like having an office job but in a warehouse environment that at some point, smelt full of printing ink.

I wonder if my day tomorrow at work will be the same as my first day.... or will they give me a different task to do? I want to learn as many different things as possible so I want to try something else tomorrow like unloading stock from a pallet. Although the work is more physically demanding and my arms and legs will be sore by the end of the day, I want to give it a try too.

I have not been this happy in an extremely long time. I also managed to sleep for 10 whole hours! After months of Insomnia, last night was the best sleep I've ever had! What a bonus!

I believe they will hire me at the end of the Probation Period as I am trying my hardest to be a Perfectionist at what I'm doing, which is printing logos and designs onto cups and plates.

Re: Job Search!

Day 2 of my 2 week Probation Period and I've been complimented that I am a "fast" worker. So far, so great. I hope I get to try other tasks though. I don't want to be locked into a work routine just yet.
