Re: Job Search!

@SaltwaterSoul Talk about everyday not going "perfectly" and that's okay - I had a massive accident at work today and even though I said "sorry" to my Supervisors and Co-Worker, I'm still feeling guilty and ashamed for the mistake that I made. I'm so scared I'm going to be fired! Thankfully, I have my third Psychology session next Wednesday so hopefully that should calm me down/distract me more so I can forget about my negative thoughts.

@Ainjoule Your job is very similar to SalwaterSoul's, I think.

@Ruby26 How are your job search efforts going? Anything that stands out for you?

@Oaktree I love this thread that you have created! Are you keeping up with all of this?

Re: Job Search!

Hey @SaltwaterSoul Thanks so much!! I start late August, so a couple of weeks to go. I'm getting ready for it. Do you work in Peer Work field? Glad to hear you are sleeping through the night.

Hey @FearofUnknown Sounds like a tricky day, glad you have a psych session coming up. I know I been there before, hopefully they have compassion and you have compassion with yourself. <3

Re: Job Search!

@SaltwaterSoul I'm so glad to hear that things are going well for you. I'm proud of you for getting and sticking with this job and having perfect attendance even with all the anxiety.

I am also having a lot of trouble with switching off when work is done. Do you have a self-care routine for after work?

I'm struggling a lot right now. There was a difficult incident on my first day at a new job and it triggered a breakdown. I've had to go on mental health leave. My supervisor has been really supportive so I'm hoping I should be all good to go back next week. It is just so frustrating having no tolerance for conflict, this happens to me all the time.

Re: Job Search!

@FearofUnknown I'm sorry to hear of the work situation. How did that all go in the end? Everybody makes mistakes, I hope you got understanding and compassion in any case.

I just started a new job- there was an incident on my first day and I ended up getting triggered and going on mental health leave. Supervisor has been supportive, so I should be all good to go back to work next week.

Re: Job Search!

Hi! Just joined this forum and so glad I found this thread. I'm in the middle of a job search right now, specifically looking for peer support and lived experience roles in Queensland. I've just completed my Lived Experience Orientation Training and submitted an EOI to LEA's Representative Panel today. I am feeling equal parts excited and committed! Would love to connect with others navigating similar paths. 😊

Re: Job Search!

Hi everyone,

How is everyone going at work?

I’ve just finished reading through your posts and responses, and honestly, it’s so hard when mistakes happen, especially when you’re already stressed or overwhelmed. Good on you all for showing up, you are an inspiration to me.

I’ve struggled a bit with finding that balance too. I really enjoy my main job, where I get to make a difference in people’s lives, and I’m very well supported. It’s related to peer support work but a little different, as the service we offer has many different parts to it. I still look forward to going there every week, which says a lot about how much I enjoy it.

My other job is a completely different story. It’s a casual retail job in a large business, and I really struggle with the level of stress. The pace is extreme, and sometimes I’m literally asking myself, how am I going to get through this shift? Some shifts are calmer than others, but I often get put on during the busiest rushes. When I’m already stressed, I make more mistakes. Sometimes I completely go blank or freeze, feel dizzy, and struggle to keep up while customers are constant lining up and just staring at me. It’s incredibly overwhelming, and I have been actively trying to take long big breaths to prevent panic but it's so hard. It just makes me sad because I know I'm capable, but this job makes me feel I'm not, that I can't cope. Then I look around, and all other TMs seem to do "just fine", but I know many of them been there forever so they probably used to it by now.

The reason I have stayed is to be honest the money, it's good pay and my mental health costs a lot of money. Having these two jobs has made it a lot easier to cover all the costs...

I have talked to my psych about it, and I think maybe next year I’ll look into finding something different as a second job something that gives me more passion and happiness, rather than this constant overwhelming. I’m hoping I can find something that works better for me. In the meantime I have cut back on some shifts at the store to be able to rest properly in between.

Sorry for such a long post, and I hope I don’t sound like I’m complaining. For now, I’m just trying to find a balance that works for me. One day at the time..look after yourself and take care. I believe in you all!!

Re: Job Search!

@SaltwaterSoul nice to hear from you. I'm glad the job related to peer support work is going well. I'm sorry for your stress in the retail job. I couldn't cope with a job in retail, I just don't have the tolerance required for dealing with the entitlement and the lack of clear communication. A lot of the best people that I know tried really hard at retail work but couldn't cope.

Is there a way to reduce costs to your mental health treatment without reducing the quality of care? I used to pay $240 an appointment for a psychologist but now I go to a service that is covered entirely by Medicare, and the quality of care is actually better than the psychologist was. Plus, I also go to Sane Recovery club, which is free and another free support group too.

Things are going well for me. I'm only working very part time, but that is enough for me right now while I focus on my recovery. I'm doing an admin role for a peer support organisation. I love the values of the company, and my supervisor has been kind and supportive. I'm hoping that once my mental health is more stable, I can look for something else, so that I can afford somewhere decent to live. But for now, this role gives me more meaning and something productive to do.

Re: Job Search!

Been there, done that. In the three years I've had on my visa, I've applied to 1000s of jobs with no success, or atleast very little.

While I managed to get a project here or there, nothing stuck and eventually things would fizzle out and end.

I tried switching careers, went back to school and even accepted my fate and decided to apply to part time jobs instead. Guess what, I've now been let go from two of those and I feel like there's no hope, no chance whatsoever.

I panic every time I think about my future, how am I supposed to pay back my student loans at this rate, or build a home, or have a gods damned life? Why can't it be as easy for me as it is for every person out there? How hard can it be to find something as simple as a job?

Am I just stupid or incapable of just plain unlocky? I won awards at Uni for my work, I was a good student but why did the real world bend me so far that I broke? And hilariously enough, am working through that brokenness, knowing that my exhaustion and fear cloud my applications even further to the point that I make stupid mistakes. Where does it get better? Does it get better?

Re: Job Search!

I am currently looking for work after being unemployed for the last 3 years. I have been looking on Seek and Indeed and am very strict about what I am willing to apply for and my criteria for what I am able to consistantly do. After many job changes in my life I am looking for data entry or admin on a part time basis as I am still in early recovery from addiction and have just had a recent diagnosis of AuDHD and cPTSD that I am dealing with. I'm not scared of working, I am worried about what I can realistically commit to
