Re: Saturday Soiree -- 24th January 2026

@AlwaysMyself dietary restrictions are a difficult combination with CFS. I went on this special diet for a few years, and I wasn't allowed to eat much that I could make myself at all. No eggs, dairy, soy, wheat and certain nuts and vegetables weren't allowed either. I lived off rice milk, rice cakes and fruit mostly.

The only microwave meals I've ever had without chilli or lumps of meat have been the cottage beef pies. I think they should make more variety of premade meals. I'm glad you can do some cooking for yourself, but it is a shame you don't have other options.

@Ruby26 lol the fire with the spices! 😅 reminds me of my cousin - he somehow melted the tiling grout on the stove splash-back when living with my family as a young adult 🤣. I have never seen melted grout before or since lol.

I have a gas stove and i dont like it becayse well... sometimes i lean too far into a stove... once my jumper cuaght fire - thankfully it just singed and melted, not flames! I was about 16 when that happened... i remember i was stirring the lemon curd for a friend on a gas stove.

Microwaves are great and so much safer often. And so many gadgets now that can cook things in a mircowave very similar to if using an over or stove. I even have a metal grill that is microwave safe (tupperware).

@tyme no delivered meals any more. Used to get lite n easy but only had about 5 dinners i didnt mind eating. Tried dinner ladies but they only have about 3. Tried one other brand also which had about 7 i didnt mind, but also got sick of them when having it twice a day every day.

In October i decided to try nutrition shakes but found it very difficult to drink, so i switched to the bars - and they are working great. 2 bars + 1 meal a day usually. Balancing all my needs quite well so far. Healthy and low effort. 😎 and thankfully i dont feel hungry (which can be a problem for just doing nutrition shake/bars because there isnt bulk). Snacks are carrots and cucumbers straight out of the packet - no effort either. 🥰

@Blackcloud so good to hear from you!

But sucks about the fridge! That would be so stressful, and even more so if its the landlords fridge. I hope they are good about it and it can be either glued back together or replaced for not too much cost. Ebay & Amazon are amazing with what you can get replacement parts for!

So glad to hear the filmmaking program is coming up and your support worker is going with you! I recall you mentioning you may look at this group before. Fingers and toes all crossed it goes super smoothly! Look forward to hearing about it after.

Hi @Blackcloud

I hope everything gets sorted out with your fridge soon.

Oooooh, the filmmaking workshop sounds exciting. I made a short film once and it was a wonderful experience. What type of film are you making?

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 24th January 2026

@AlwaysMyself its the fridge that’s in my room in the apartment/accomodation, and yes hopefully the cost won’t be much either if I have to end up paying to get it fixed! 🤞

@Ruby26 it is just the start of the program for us so we won’t know what it is we’re gonna be filming until I attend more of the workshops that occur every Saturdays. I guess it’s a good way to meet other participants that are also doing the program you’re doing as well! But even better when I have my own support worker around to support me. I feel like if I didn’t have a support worker coming that I wouldn’t want to join the workshops so yeah. I know there are some other participants that are also going to be bringing their own support workers too. 🙂

@Blackcloud that sounds fantastic, it's a great way to have some social connection too. I'm glad you have a support worker that is able to help you. I hope you have fun on Saturday.

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 24th January 2026

Yes cottage/shepherds pie is yum! @Ruby26 🥰

And some even make it with sweet potato which is lower GI and thus a bit better for my insulin resistence 😊.

Re: Saturday Soiree -- 24th January 2026

@Ruby26 thank you ❤️ and hopefully I won’t end up dropping out of the program like at anytime before it ends in December this year lol but at the same time I lowkey have a feeling it’ll happen, but as of now I don’t like to think that way. 🤞 I just hope that I can feel more comfortable in general being in the workshops/classes with the other participants around, especially cause I have a support person (support worker) coming with me hopefully to every workshops I’ll need to attend within the 40 week period (40 workshops/classes in total of the year). 🙂

@AlwaysMyself I'm sorry that you have insulin resistance. Yeah, I gave up eating potato while I was insulin resistant (sweet potato is a great alternative).
