Wind-down Wednesday

Wind-down Wednesday

This time of year can be difficult for a lot of people for many different reasons. Some find joy and some find loneliness and pain.

During this time we need to look out for ourselves. I struggle with self-care but as my psych put it yesterday it’s about maintenance. You service your car you need to service yourself.

What is something little you can do today and over the next coming days to maintain your mind and body. Could it be sitting and having a coffee and relishing the moment not thinking about what is next or what is coming? Noticing the warmth that it gives. Could it be reading a little bit of a book and focusing on that? Spending time with a pet and feeling the love and connection? Or anything that takes just 5 minutes to be out of your mind and just be. Focus on that moment.

For me I’m going to have a bath and just focus on the scent of the candle and listen to my white noise and hopefully block everything else out.

That’s amazing @Eve7. 2 books is a lot, I’m glad you have something to escape too. What kind of things do you knit?

@Jynx de-cluttering helps and clears the mind but it’s hard to find the motivation with ADHD. Feeling like a constant tug of war. I have way too much stuff I don’t use

Re: Wind-down Wednesday

I feel the pain of clutter @creative_writer and @Jynx . We can all have a fight over who gets @Captain24 to help them with decluttering lol. 😂😂 You'll be in high demand with your skills @Captain24 ! 😂😍

I find it easier to sort/declutter someone else's things that my own. 😊. As a teenager my family had an exchange student once, and when it was time for her to return home she was struggling with motivation to pack. I was struggling with motivation to clean my room. So we swapped jobs lol. We were both happy with that trade 😅 and both thought we got the better deal lol.

Hobbies eh... like a few others have said, I can be a bit crafty. Although I enjoy it more with company. But solo I can do my paint by number or figure painting. Sometimes read a book.

I have a cross-stitch i started a year ago that I need to finish. I'm not yet 1/4 of the way through. it's decently big though, and its my first cross-stitch haha. I was given it about 15-20 years ago lol.

@Jynx How do you do a solo DnD game? *tilts head to side with interest*

In terms of you being DM and needing to do planning -- would be happy to help you brainstorm campaign ideas or "quirky twists" in a story. 😉 Or what random responses you could throw your friends off-guard with from the NPC's 😋. If you feel like it at any stage getting brain-storming ideas, just throw it into the DnD chat thread (if the search works well enough to find it lol).

Hi @Captain24 @AlwaysMyself @Rosepetal96 @creative_writer @Eve7 @rav3n @Jynx @Shaz51 and others here.

I love the topic of hobbies for self care @Captain24 - great choice! For me this year, I’d like to continue my knitting for charity and myself as well of crochet and cross stitching. I’d also like to continue my new hobbies of journaling which I’ve just started back in and doing more diamond art - as long as my uni studying timetable allows! Taking a photo a day is something I’ve just started doing this year to put in a book I purchased at Kmart last year.

Take care.

Re: Wind-down Wednesday

@Captain24 @creative_writer I think the decluttering is also tied to a lot of emotion for me, like I think it will involve some reflecting on my identity and how I've changed, what sort of things I want to hold on to vs stuff that I might be clinging to because it's part of a past I am trying to let go of. I think it's why the process has been ongoing for... like a year now? 😅

@AlwaysMyself I do the side-head-tilt too ahaha

Anyway, yes solo D&D is a thing! I was given a book (the title escapes me right now, I'll have to pull it out of whatever box it got smushed into with all my other D&D stuff) that basically allows you to create a procedural game by rolling dice to create the world and generate random events. Like there's hundreds of tables - for everything from creating NPCs to dungeons to random encounters. Like you'll settle down for a long rest, then roll to decide if there's an event, then roll on the random events table and it might be like 'a thunderstorm interrupts your sleep!' or 'an NPC attempts to steal your belongings'

It's definitely a wild-card kind of experience, where you can kinda choose how much you want the dice to decide stuff for you. I think it utilised a system called 'oracle dice' where if you aren't sure about something you can roll a d6 with these outcomes (which may or may not open up other options that you can then use other tables to fill out):

1. No.

2. No, and...

3. No, but...

4. Yes, but...

5. Yes, and...

6. Yes.

So like if you are playing as a sneaky thief, and you wanna determine whether the NPC at the tavern is carrying valuables to loot you ask the oracle die - "Does this NPC have valuables?"

1. No.

2. No, and... (he notices you and decides to rob you instead)

3. No, but... (he is talking to someone about a 'job' you might be interested in)

4. Yes, but... (all the valuables are cursed)

5. Yes, and... (a lot of the valuables are in a sack he keeps leaving unattended)

6. Yes.

Oh wow I spent way too long on this, haha woops my special interest was activated and now I can't stop! 😝

Can always chat more about it on the D&D thread if you like! I had some memes I was gonna post over there too lol hopefully I bookmarked it somewhere 😅

@Jynx I feel like I end up keeping more than I need, I'll justify it by saying I'll keep it just in case I need it. I have a lot of old clothing which I never wear anymore because it is no longer my style
