Self care by growing a garden

Self care by growing a garden

A SOS to any green thumbs out there

I have always found gardening to be therapeutic and it has given me great joy. However, after a major crisis with Mr Darcy's health I have not had been able to get back into it. Have other gardeners suffered from a similar hiatus and how have you recovered and got going again?

Darcy

PS have a spot that needs filling any recommendations for a 1m high cool climate white flower plant?

@Maggie, the purple ones are Tibouchinas, and I've seen them growing in Victoria. They don't like really hard frost, but if you can give them a bit of winter shelter, they're fine. 🙂
I haven't seen them in my really frosty part of Victoria. We usually get a few-4s over winter, sometimes colder.

@Smc They probably wouldn’t grow where I am then, we can do a -6 and more, two -2 this week. I’m in tassie, not complaining, I prefer the cold to heat any day.

I’m hoping to have a garden when I move, I miss it. Love the dirt on my hands and elsewhere, then the blooms and smells.

In situ in new home and there are a few plants with weed potential out there including a fair few cotoneasters ... yikes.

A few hours pottering in garden and transplanted an Ausslie bush today. Hope it survives and thrives thru spring.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

I "rescued" a couple of punnets of purple sprouting broccoli from a garden centre reductions table last night. 20c per punnet instead of $4.50, and a night sitting in a tray of water has them looking good. 🙂 Now to find space for 20 or so broccoli plants...??

I grew some a few years back, and had a bit of fun making a "bouquet" of assorted freshly picked veggies. 😛 Purple broccoli in the moddle, green broccoli shoots, cabbage side shoots, curly kale and a few fennel fronds.

Had a super quick scout around the two garden centres, Mr Darcy suggested the garden could wait until house renovations done ... I don't think so ... even to get the shed repaired two or three cotoneasters will have to go.

@Former-Member, our place had several full grown cotoneasters when we moved here. We found goats to be a very effective method of erradication. 😛 They aren't suitable for all settings though, and are not good companions for fruit trees.
