Self care by growing a garden

Self care by growing a garden

A SOS to any green thumbs out there

I have always found gardening to be therapeutic and it has given me great joy. However, after a major crisis with Mr Darcy's health I have not had been able to get back into it. Have other gardeners suffered from a similar hiatus and how have you recovered and got going again?

Darcy

PS have a spot that needs filling any recommendations for a 1m high cool climate white flower plant?

Feeling sorry for our birds, we have taken down the bird baths that we will be taking with us.

@Former-Member, one of my favourite garden moments, quite a few years ago, was when I was going to move the tank hose onto the next newly planted cauli seedling, and found a male blue wren and his two ladies having a lovely time splashing under the trickling water. That cauli got a bit of extra water- I couldn't interrupt that. 🙂

In my garde the other day was a blue kingfisher, wished I had the camera with me @Former-Member

The only kingfisher I have seen in the southern states we have lived in is the kookaburra @Shaz51

@Smc I don't mind the cottage garden or wildflower look either, we have had a few sections of these, usually bordered at the back with a shrub or border of dahlias of the same colour, Japonica (flowering quince).

@Former-Member, some japonica varieties produce good fruit. Red seems to produce little or none, but I've seen white flowered ones with prolific crops. They smell lovely, are rock hard, and are inedible raw, but stewed up and the juice made into a jelly, mmm yum.... It's a somewhat tangier version of regulatr quince jelly, and amazing with poultry, game or pork. 🙂

We had red ones growing here when we moved in, but I've recently brought a white flowered plant, hoping it will be productive as well as pretty.

@Shaz51 I was waiting for the pics to cone through when you posted these pics, then forgot to cone back😊😊

You have a lovely garden, even in winter. I would love to press some of the purple ones.
