Welcome and getting started

Weekends...

Weekends...

I don’t know if anyone else feels this, but weekends absolutely wreck me. Not because anything bad happens, but because everything stops.

During the week, I’ve got some kind of structure to hang onto; appointments, tasks, admin, responsibilities, all the stuff that forces me to keep moving. It’s not fun, but at least it keeps me going.

When the weekend hits? The whole world goes quiet… and suddenly I’m stuck alone with my own mind.

For people dealing with long-term trauma stuff like dissociation, flashbacks, internal conflict, loneliness, or just feeling unsafe inside your own skin, weekends aren’t “rest.” They’re a void. They’re too silent, too empty, too unstructured.

The stuff that doesn’t stop on weekends:

  • the pain

  • the trauma reactions

  • the internal noise

  • the stress

  • the emotional hangover from the week

The stuff that does stop on weekends:

  • clinics

  • therapists

  • support lines with decent waiting times

  • admin pathways

  • any sense of external structure

It leaves you sitting there with nothing but your brain, your body, and your symptoms. And honestly? That’s when things get the hardest. During the week, I’m fighting systems, tasks, and responsibilities. On the weekend, I end up fighting myself.
And I can’t fight myself and the rest of the world at the same time.

Just wanted to put this out there in case someone else struggles with weekends too.

If anyone has ways they cope with weekends better, I’d actually love to hear them.

Re: Weekends...

Hey @unimportant, I definitely hear you when you say you feel a separation between yourself and people around you. It’s unsettling and sounds like you have been dealing with your condition for some time.

Hows your day been? 😊

Re: Weekends...

It’s been a tough stretch.
I made it through the weekend, and my wife is home safely from her trip, I’m really grateful for that. My plan was to have everything setup to keep things positive for her return, but a self-sabotaging family member turned up two hours beforehand and set off a chain reaction that pretty much derailed everything.

I’m trying my best to just breathe through it and appreciate the chaotic mess of it all. Good news is I have now experienced EMDR treatment. So I have a feeling I am incredibly vulnerable after that.

Re: Weekends...

Hi @unimportant

That does sound like a tough stretch, particularly with the relative that derailed things. I'm glad to hear you're embracing the chaos and breathing 💮 through it - those sounds like helpful strategies especially if you are feeling extra vulnerable right now 🌿

You have the whole community behind you.

You are not alone.

Re: Weekends...

Good news is that I made it all the way to the Psychiatrist appointment. I am not sure how I thought it was going to make things better.
His orders now are that I need a counselor or psychologist to work along side him. I had that all in place until I was told it was no good without diagnostic information from a psychiatrist.

You can really see why people just walk away.
This whole system seems to be built on exclusion.

Re: Weekends...

Hey @unimportant hearing how frustrating this news must be, the system can be exhausting to navigate at times but good on you for persevering.

Would it be an option to re-engage your previous counsellor/psychologist now that you've met with the psychiatrist?

Re: Weekends...

@unimportant I'm so sorry to hear that. Is this something that has just happened recently?

Do you have any supports you could reach out to as you process this - friends or family you could lean on?

Re: Weekends...

Just today, the day after the psychiatrist visit. I won't be bothering anyone else. I am finding it hard enough to just regulate myself at the moment.

Sorry, this is not your problem. Everything will be fine.
