All Things Sport...

All Things Sport...

There are many threads dedicated to sharing experiences - good times and not so good - so I thought I would start a thread for those on here who love their sport. For me - and I suspect for some others - sport is a good distraction as it often blocks out the more negative emotions and helps to avoid triggers that many other things in 'life' so often seem to do.

This thread can also be a place where like-minded (and not so like-minded people @utopia @Former-Member @Zoe7 lol) can 'discuss/debate' their respective competitions in their preferred sport(s).

For those that are definitely NOT into sport @Phoenix_Rising for example - avoid this thread at all costs - whoops just tagged you in..........hahaha!!!!!

Great to have you join us all here @Scarecrowe I know some of us are pretty sport mad and follow a lot of different sports. I love footy (all codes) and tennis the most. Not a fan of motor sport but would be on Ford myself if I was lol What other sports do you follow and what teams do you go for?

Re: All Things Sport...

Thanks for the warm welcome @Zoe7

Well my three main loves are in correct order cricket (all forms) car racing (mainly formula 1 and v8's) and aussie rules.

I have true blue blood running through my veins (yes a Carlton Supporter).

I do also enjoy american baseball (Yankees) and used to follow american basketball (Knicks) but for some reason not as much as I used to until recently when my 12yr nephew has become a MASSIVE NBA fan and talks to me about it every chance he can get lol.

In 1999 I went to England for the cricket world cup with Ian Healy and Mark Taylor as our tour hosts. Had a ball (it helped that we won the cup of course lol). It took me over 3 weeks to dry out after I got home...............never drank so much in my life lol.

So what sports and teams do you follow???

Re: All Things Sport...

well me being the dopey one @Zoe7 you did tell me what sports you followed and then I asked you anyway. old age I put that too lol!!!

Glad to hear that you would be going for Ford if you followed the racing. you must have great taste and smarts lol.

I live in a mainly aussie rules state...rugby is not really that big here so don't follow the league or union at all. or the world game either for that matter.

but I do enjoy the olympics and commonwealth games and also have gotten into the tour de france over the past decade or so. plus love the scenery they show during that as well.....

Re: All Things Sport...

haha that was some cricket trip then @Scarecrowe LOL I was in Dublin the last time we won the Rigby World Cup in 1999 - was a good year for Aussie sport. I made a drunken call to my Mum in the middle of the night - think I was barely understood but she just laughed at me and told me to have a good time ....which I did 👍 It was a great night - met so many people (I was on my own) and we partied all night

I am a long time Lions supporter - right back to the Fitzroy days - was a really good year for us and I am absolutely thrilled we signe Birchall for next year as well as Ellis-Yeoman from Adelaide - think Birchall will be a good replacement for Hodge (although I also think he is irreplaceable).

Parramatta is my NRL team and Liverpool in the Premier League. I don't follow a local soccer team but if Tassie had one I would.

Re: All Things Sport...

You and @MDT would have a lot to talk about - he follows the Tour de France as well.

I must admit I have become a bit bored with the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. There seems to be so many world championships or tournaments on these days that when it comes to the really big ones I am already over it. A far cry from when I was younger and would be glued to the tv day and night to watch both.

Good for you @Zoe7 for sticking with good old Fitzroy. Was a massive shame when they had to fold but at least they merged with the bears and became a powerhouse team. And I love the fact they respect and still honour the Fitzroy club.

I really think getting Luke Hodge helped them and wow did they improve massively, was great to see. would have loved to see them win the flag this year. That would have gotten up the nose of lots of so called 'experts' lol.

Yes I agree with your signings being great pick ups. I reckon you will just pick up from where you left off this year. I am hoping that we get Eddie Betts back.....everything crossed on that one!!!!!!!

Wow how cool being in Dublin when we won the cup. Yes many drinks do flow at times like that, that is for sure. lol!!!!

Well I gather from your last post you are a fellow Taswegian???!!!

Re: All Things Sport...

You are from Tassie too - that is so cool @Scarecrowe Haven't met many Taswegians on here. Magie is from the North and so is The-Red-Centaur. I think Wander is more in the middle. I am in the South. Don't follow any local footy teams but used to - got sick of the constant changing from State League back to local leagues then back again. Would love to have a Tassie AFL team - would go to every game ...would still follow the Lions also though.

I hope you get Eddie back too - he certainly would help with some of your younger players and give a spark to your forward line. You have the basis of a really good team they just need to play more consistently and believe in themselves a bit more. That was the biggest change for us - experience and belief - confidence makes such a difference to making a good side a great side so hoping we can take that into next year as well.
