just a struggling mum of 2 kids and an injured husband

just a struggling mum of 2 kids and an injured husband

hi everyone!

this has been a crazy journey for me and my husband. he is fairly new to adf joined up 2022. after basic training we fell pregnant with our first baby. still being in his hometown we had a lot of support with our first. soon after receiving first posting orders I found out I was pregnant with my second.

mooving away from family was hard let alone discovering that I was having another baby so soon. I struggled a lot with ppd, I felt so guilty putting so much pressure on him. and then 6 months after having our 2nd, he has a major back injury that required surgery.

the stress has been crippling for me and I have no one to talk to about it. most of my anger goes out on him which isn't fair and its wearing thin on our relationship.

I love my family so much and I know they all deserve better. I want to be the mum and wife that creates a good safe home environment but can't help but feel like im failing

Please don't put pressure on yourself to be perfect. There is no such thing. Perfectionism can be so damaging. I know because it is something I struggle with too. Nothing is ever good enough. It can lead you to thinking that You are not good enough. It is a slippery slope.

Please place some self-care strategies in place so that you don't completely burn out. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now as you care for your children and your husband too. As the others said, you cannot pour from an empty cup. It is important to look after yourself first. We are here if you need to chat. Please keep reaching out. Welcome to the forums.

Hi @rosieC13 and welcome

I’m glad you found this space and reached out. I had PPD after my first - it’s so hard to be a mum anyway and then to add PPD and ADF family life I can imagine it’s all very overwhelming.

There were great suggestions above. Have you accessed the Defence Member and Family Support social workers? The can help with accessing family support services inside Defence if your partner is still serving

And Open Arms is there for you as much as for your partner.

thanks guys. being so new to the adf I had no idea about all their support they can offer. im in the process with my husband to see what kind of support we can get. this is pretty deliberating for his mental health as well but best thing we can so is work together.

I have called open arms and they were a huge help as well.

thanks for all the love and support guys appreciate it ❤️
