Love me Mad World @heartathome Got the sheet music for it decades ago and been known to play and sing it quietly at home.

@Bunniekins @MissGremlin @REDLINEZ750

Nina Simone and Work came up next on my search engine. Play and sing her music at home too.

@DownMoreThanUp First record I bought was Machine Head. Guess it shows were I was living when I a kid. Ooops the toughest neighbourhood in the city... they still post pics about it on the news about how hard a place it is to live ... and I thought it was great because it was after the orphanages... lol ... gotta laugh about something ... huh! Too heavy, too metal, but I had to leave the rock side of life cos I was trying to be a good mum and teaching little kids and also lots of grieving....and not liking the illegal sides ... hmmm ....

Glad you got the reference @Glisten LOL.

LOL. Yes I can see the funny side of playlunch ... cos where I came from .. nearly 60 years ago, it was painfully frequent and painfully true. In high density housing, it leaks into your private spaces. I had to say to my son ... it wasnt that funny back then, but now I can laugh about it. I had to escape into Bach and classical music, but I am not a snob, and I love wit, irony and a sense of humour and good social commentary.

I imagined you only played classical music @Appleblossom . Sorry. 😒 My bad! I don't know why I thought that. How wrong was I!

I liked her singing it better than Tears for Fears.

So, you sing as well? In public as well as private? Being a singer or an actress was all I wanted to be growing up! My father always said I'd make a great actress one day (when I was being dramatic) ha ha ha

I can't imagine you listening to Machine Head, even though I don't know them. lol Just the name sounds enough. My first LP was Skyhooks. 💜

Ha ha @heartathome I was 15 when I bought the Machinehead album. Probably related to the concept cos I had spent too much time with my head in a sewing machine. Making clothes to sell. I wanted to know the words and why people liked certain stuff. I got the attitude and social status behind it but have not listened to Deep Purple much since then! I felt its working class solidarity, and rising up against injustice.

Too much work when younger, means I have chronic physical pain, so I had to go for gentler music, to physically cope.

I did classical singing at uni, and joined choirs. I am too shy to be a front person in a band. I go for singing in the chord, usually in the low voices, but I can do opera too. I am a Mezzo.

I care about the making of music, the human aspects, and the good it can do, more than being fussy or snobby about genres or types.

I have always looked for the lyrics of a song @Appleblossom . A friend is teaching me to 'hear' the music as well. I'm learning to dance again! So far only swaying but it's a start. 😆

I love how music can say so much! Most of my songs are emotional but I've just started listening to music I haven't heard before, which is different. The lyrics are much the same in feeling and story lines, though.

I didn't know you have chronic physical pain (or have forgotten, which is more likely)! Where abouts do you get pain? I have a faint recollection of back problems but that could be anyone.

I thought being classically trained meant singing opera but not true according to AI. I think the lead singer of Disturbed is classically trained too. He does a great rendition of Sound of Silence. You also play an instrument? Believe it or not, I still can't sing if I know someone is listening to me. Never could. Not that my voice is any good these days from years of smoking/ vaping.

I am a Mezzo What's a Mezzo? Don't worry. AI at it again. It describes Mezzo-soprano as middle range with warmth, rich, velvety, strong and earthy voice. What a beautiful description! Soprano is described as bright and soaring, which is what I've heard.

l hope your day has been good enough to put a smile on your face! I also think of your son and hope he's doing well too. 💜

@heartathome Yes I play piano and recorder, and taught for decades. I have really valued music as an in on feelings and natural responses to things. Folk songs, old time songs, blues, jazz and rock too, as well as all the classical and sacred music. Due to all the mental health labels put on my family and the extreme situations we have been in, from young ages, music was a wonderful resource and treasure, to help me figure out myself, and the world. At one stage i thought of doing a mental health and music NFP, but I dont really have the confidence anymore. I have too much accumulated trauma, rejection and self doubt. I am doing unpaid work in both fields but it is in separate capacities. At least it gives me meaning, and I have commitments to keep me engaged.
