I appreciate your insight into the science of music but also the forms of support you offer others on the forum.

I mostly play acoustic - piano - recorder - drums voice, but I knew tekkie people and did science in the 1970-80s. I also did a widdle bit of keyboard and had a DX7 and sequencer ...and did a rocknroll recording.... back in the day.

Essentially, I had children and then taught piano and reclaimed my classical music heritage, cos I got a neck condition and could not do loud music. Also the depth in the classical repertoire gave my feelings more scope, as I also came from extreme trauma and had a huge grief load. So I am lucky to have survived and done 30 years of big acoustic choral'operatic classical gigs in big and recorder consort in smaller spaces. It has helped ease my grief and my neck.

Doing early music, I could also indulge my nerdiness and get 415 Hz alto. lol ...Although I did decide it wasn't worth messing with my ears too much, so mostly play in standard tuning, but at times I get it out for the beautiful mellow sound.

I rarely listened to rock and pop, except for teaching when required. I have found music on the forum interesting as a sentimental going back to teens/twenties and reclaiming that part of my life. I recently did a comedy skit on Aussie rock. It was good for me to shift some of my seriousness, and be more accessible.

Well my niece has gone AWOL again.

I'm almost at the point of giving up.

I really hope I can stick with her through this time.

Wow you certainly have an interesting musical background. Acoustic has a certain special quality to it, doesn't it? I have always preferred minor keys, as they bring our deeper selves to the surface, but I like stuff that makes me feel joy also. I believe some of the most beautiful songs ever produced have come from the singer's past trauma - James Taylor's 'California On My Mind' being a perfect example, or 'Tears in Heaven' by Eric Clapton. It reminds us what it means to be human.

I have played drums for most of my life, but I play a little guitar and some keyboards. I have also produced some digital music myself in the last few years. I have a thing for soundtracks since they let the imagination wuther its way to and fro and take us to new heights.

I am going to share a link below to a wonderful Russian opera singer called Evgenia Laguna. When the movie 'The Fifth Element' came out, the diva alien scene was done with a French actress called Maïwen and the operatic singing was done by an actual opera singer. They digitally enhanced the sequence since it was believed at the time no singer could keep up with the rapid key changes and octave range. But they were wrong - Evgenia can sing over four octaves and she does the whole thing perfectly, with no digital enhancement. She became a Facebook friend too:)
