Feeling like I'm not doing enough

Feeling like I'm not doing enough

Hey all,

So I work a full time job now, its not in my field of study so I still need to search for a job in my field. Though, my field which is in AI is hard to get into as a graduate, and so with that I also need to build a portfolio of my work.

All of this requires time, and when I come back home from work I feel so tired and just end up sleeping, sometimes I don't even brush my teeth because one moment I close my eyes and its morning. Because of this and the demands I have to meet to get a job in my field, I feel like I'm not doing enough, however my doctor has said I need to make sure I get enough sleep and has even given me sleep medication to make sure I fix my sleep pattern.

I feel so like torn apart maybe?

One side of me knows I must sleep to improve my health, and another side is questioning me constantly as to why I am not putting in the time and effort to do all these projects and things, where sleep is the last priority because it sees it as wasting time.

I try to stick to the sleep side, but I also know that I have to do the projects so I can get a job in my field, but I end up being so tired, so I would need caffeine.

For me coffee makes me extremely anxious and on edge, but matcha is fine, though I just don't know how to handle these thoughrs.

Every day I come home I feel like I'm wasting time sleeping. Its just come home, dinner, sleep, wake up, work etc.

So yeah, can anybody recommend me a way to help with this conflict of thoughts?

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Re: Feeling like I'm not doing enough

Hey Alisse,

I'm doing okay I guess, I've been in this job for more than 6 months and my physical health has gotten worse, though I've had a chat with my doctor and he was concerned at the large change in my physical health to the point that's he going to see about getting me 2-3 weeks medical leave with a solid plan to get me back into a healthy state and shape.

I'm definitely going to be quitting this job soon though, it's too much stress not enogh reward and the especially long hours I feel like are hindering my progress to make my own projects to get a job in the field.

Definitely sleep helps, but this job takes too many hours of the day which I feel like cuts into my sleep if I want to enjoy life.

Thank you for reaching out,

Cozy

Update 25/03/26

I've now resigned from the job and yesterday was my last day and a lot has happened.

Firstly, my medicine that I take for anxiety and depression has changed brands and this one works way better for me, even though its still the same active ingredient, for some reason this one just works way better for me. This has just helped me improve my mood and also the medicine has helped in having a lower appetite which is beneficial for me as I overeat.

In terms of the job resignation, I'm just so relieved its over, I was so tired of that job and the stress was just not worth it. It really did a number on my physical health, after consulting with my doctor, he gave me a 3-4 week plan to help me get better and back on track, with this in mind and the fact that the job was going to fire me soon anyways by putting me on a performance improvement plan, this turned out wonderfully and I'm so relieved that I can finally just rest. Of course, I am going to need another job, but I'm definitely not doing a job like that anymore.

In regards to the 3-4 week plan, that definitely includes sleep, so I'll be doing a whole lot more sleeping and making sure that I am building a routine sleep schedule to ensure that I am getting enough sleep and not oversleeping as well.

Overall, everything turned out fine, and I'm just so happy for it, I'm just so grateful for it. Everything is paid, bills are paid and now I can focus on my mental health as I've just been so burned out with the work, health and everything.

Now it's time for me to practice sleeping properly hahahhaahahhaha

Thank you for the support everyone,
Cozy
