Talking through trauma and PTSD

Therapy types

Therapy types

Seeking help, thoughts, info from life experiences etc

currently doing schema therapy for CPTSD and feeling have hit a wall.

been reading little bits about ACT therapy and wondering if could be worth talking with psychologist about next session in couple days time.

wondering what type of therapy might help me coming to terms with, and deal with, ongoing grief from loss of family members 40+ yrs ago.

Psychologist has mentioned EMDR various times. Not something I feel I can do

Re: Therapy types

I think it's a great idea to talk through some of these. Have you seen your psych yet? I wasn't sure when you were seeing them to talk to them about different therapies @Former-Member

I guess EAP is designed for short term intervention for particular instances, where as other therapies are longer term.

I dont' know where to ask this, but I just wanted to check about your general health pain management at the moment. Feel free to tag me into whichever thread to respond in.

Re: Therapy types

@tyme Next time I will see my psychologist is Friday afternoon. I’ve sent her an email about wanting to talk about doing a different type of therapy plus something else I want to discuss with her.

as I’ve said in lots of different situations …. No harm in asking. If don’t ask, can’t get answers.

EAP is short term, specific need focused. Used to be up to 10 sessions, down to (to my knowledge) 6 sessions now

Re: Therapy types

Hi @Former-Member, I haven’t quite had the chance to get all my thoughts down onto paper but I really do want to post a message on your thread 🙏. I don’t think it will be the answers you are looking for but I still hope what I have to share will help in some way. I have had this thread flagged since I saw it so won’t loose it, hope later today or tomorrow I can get it done and sent to you 😊. Take care

This is so great to read! @Former-Member

Are you feeling a little lighter knowing you have a plan in place? 💛

Re: Therapy types

Hey @Former-Member, that sounds like a great plan!!
I had finally finished what I had to send you but maybe out dated now haha whoops!! Should have drunk more coffee to write it faster lol.

I just had some thoughts about EMDR 🙏

Again, loved reading your thread! So thank-you again ☺️, best of luck with it all 💛

Re: Therapy types

@AuntGlow Knowing there are various different types of therapy options depending on people’s circumstances I wasn’t sure which might be some to start to be proactive with my psychologist about.

Having a plan in place for the next step is nice feeling 😺

was also good having chat about and reminder grief is not linear

Re: Therapy types

Hope the sessions go well for you. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it, but the book The Happiness Trap is so helpful to go side by side with ACT. It's written by Russ Harris. @Former-Member
