Father's Day

Father's Day

Today is Father's Day and days like these can bring about memories and feelings - some beautiful and some difficult.

@Jynx and I were talking last night about creating a space where forum members can come to share, to offer support, to lessen the feeling of isolation on Father's Day.

This is a space to work through the beautiful and the difficult feelings that surface today.

You are not alone!

@john74 that is soooo hard. Especially thinking you had more time but then missing out on that chance to say goodbye. Hugs to you

@ArraDreaming totally get it - you're such an amazing father, but I know the day has some heaviness for you too 💜

Re: Father's Day

Thank you so much for starting this thread @NightFury.

I am sitting with what everyone has shared and I am so glad you have this space to connect and express your experiences, all of which deserve lots of love and compassion. Seeing our loved ones suffer, endure pain, or even hurt us deeply, is so incredibly hard.

Like you said @NightFury, this date can bring up feelings and memories that are beautiful and difficult - both are allowed to exist.

I lost my father at 8 and my grandfather at 14, so I pass on my celebrations to my mum (who is an absolute superwoman who played both roles!)

Grief and pain have certainly left their mark, but knowing I have had other safe, loving connections to turn to has been so healing. I hope you can all find this in one another tonight.

Sending hugs your way. 🥰

Re: Father's Day

@NightFury @Jynx @Shaz51 @AuntGlow @john74 and all my father was a very difficult at times cruel man. he was confusing as he did some wonderful things but then would do a series of nasty things which i have never forgotten and he has been dead now for 25 years. my relationship with him stuffed up my dealings with men from when i was a teenager up until now. to be honest i would have perfered him to be cruel 100% of the time as it was confusing growing up. i never knew what i would be getting.

Fathers day to me is a day full of confusion. one which i have never fully embraced.

Bun

Re: Father's Day

Trauma and suffering is such a common experience for humans. I have spent a lot of effort trying to understand my forebears and just the stuff of life. I tried not to idealise or demonise them. I took a route home today past the cemetery where my father is buried. It is slower but along memory lane… many memories. Glad I feel I honoured him even though it was not really due to it being Father’s Day.

@NightFury Yesterday was father's day ... how did I not know this, two wrapped up in my own reality I guess.

Think I owe someone a late call

Re: Father's Day

lost my Biological father at 14.

moved countries to live with him at 13 .9 months.

over 30 years later he married a poor woman for a visa agreement thats younger than me.

i made mistakes with my kids i know but never hit them and tried my hardest to teach them love not hatred,

passing of thier mother at a young age has made her understandably angelic so i accept the role of villian for all the bad memories they had at home and still get phonecalls and texts which makes me happier than thier company until i regain sense of awareness in flights when it triggers.

the grace of existance has handed me 32 x 365 fathers days to date really anyway cant always have smooth seas
