What has been your highlight today, no matter how big or small? Come share 🫶

Hi everyone! This is my first ever forum post so do hope it lands where it’s meant to 🤣

Most days, I like to find a highlight 😊. Usually, that means during a walk with my dog, I try to spot something different, something cool or something that brings me some happiness. Whether it’s something big or small, it doesn’t matter. A highlight can be anything!

I love taking photos and would really like to share and see what you've come across. Something that made you smile, sparked your interest, or simply caught your eye. For me, it’s all the little things that count on the hard days.

To start, I’d like to share these beautiful birds I came across today. They like to appear like branches of a tree or the tree itself. They are called Tawny Frogmouth’s. Has anyone else seen these types of birds? My pics below -(hopefully not too small to see two in the tree on the left pic).

What have you seen today? ☀️💛🙏

@GezzaP Your personal support button 😉 I've got idea what PYT is! 😆 Thanks for sharing your day with me! One of my goals is to start walking. I haven't walked since my dog passed in '23. I'm up around 5.30am and usually get on to see if anyone's on first. My SANE counsellor and I talked about spending too much time on the forum, which surprised me a bit. I understand though as I turned down a social gathering to talk to people on here. Woops. 💛

trying to find a balance

HIGHLIGHT- old friend surprised me by dropping by - male - met him 20 years ago.

I was extremely voluble… and weird witty.

I then apologised

he admitted that he used interrupt, and talk over me all the time… he is very extrovert… I was totally introvert but working on expression… so recently got called an ambivert. I am alright with that.

Anyway it was good to see him and give him lots of cheek. I said don’t make it too long next time…and we did hug, but not romantic. Not sure I can do that. Not sure he is the one, anyway. Don’t believe in Hollywood.

i have sections in my garden with different types of plants. I have stack of succulents and one of my cacti is in stunning flower.

@heartathome I don’t like social gatherings much especially at night. I get too tired and hate driving at night. I’d rather stay home and read or do a puzzle, if I’m not gardening. But I get out earlier sometimes. Always go for a walk even if not very far.

@Appleblossom how lovely that your friend popped by to see you and you were able to enjoy the visit with teasing! I always find that fun too.

I had to google ambivert, I wonder what I am?! I am definitely braver online than in person, but I know I can hold my own in a crowd if necessary.

I hope Fri-Yay is good to you my dear Apple 🍎🍏

@GezzaP are you able to share pictures of your garden, if you would like to? I am trying to decide where to put some of my plants as they are all in pots. My back yard is very neglected as my brother is not a gardener and all he does is mow the patch of lawn that is now covered in weeds. I lived elsewhere for about 8 years and expected my brother to take care of my house included the yard but unfortunately he didn't. I love my bro but he frustrates the heck outta me!!

I want to put some of my plants in the ground and would like to grow more veggies. I can't eat tomatoes sadly but I suppose I could always give the fruit away to those who can!

Forgive me, I have probably asked this before but where abouts are you? Are you in SA?
I think you are more proficient in gardening than me, mine is more good luck than good management lol!

I think I told you that I had basil growing but I couldn't keep it alive. I don't know if I over or under watered, I had them planted in the lemon tree pot as they acts as deterrents for bugs that the lemon attracts. I am wondering if I need to put them in their own pots.

Thanks again, I never thought I was a gardening person but it seems I am!

@Mustang67 another great win! Well done, as you say your daughters' inheritance is growing. You are quite the numismatist!

I can’t get photos to work I’m afraid @ENKELI . I’m not very good with technology. I think the basil wouldn’t like being with the lemon.

If you can’t eat tomatoes only grow them if you know you can give them away.
I would recommend starting at the top by selecting some trees not conifers (pines) or large gums (choose mulga gums they are smaller). Then work your way down. If you want fruit trees they need to be in full sun or get at least 8 hours of full sun.

Note that only some natives will grow under mulgas. You’re in WA right I recommend local natives and succulents/cacti. Oh and native grasses. If you don’t plan a veggie patch grow veggies and herbs in pots. Be sure to mulch them to help retain moisture. If in pots they’ll need daily watering in the heat of Summer.

I’m in Adelaide. So yes SA.

@GezzaP I read that basil is a companion plant to the lemon, but what I didn't realise is that I do indeed need to plant them separate from the lemon. I am going to get a couple of pots for them and try again.

I used to have a veggie patch when I lived with my ex. We both couldn't eat tomatoes but yet he chose to grow them so the neighbours benefitted from the crop!

I'm not ready to do a veggie patch, that is something down the road as I would like to have one of those raised garden beds and plant them in it. For now I am wanting to get more herbs. I tried to upload a photo of the one I want but the site is not allowing me to for some reason.
