Craft Central

Craft Central

Hello forumites! This is a new craft thread dedicated to all things craft, including knitting, diamond painting, crochet, cross stitch, mosaics, etc! Basically, anything crafty! I have found that crafts are great for mental health as it allows people to be creative and gives them a way to express themselves with different mediums and items, such as wool, paints, etc. It can also help regulate emotions and promote relaxation as well as being a great conversation starter!

Tagging @ENKELI @Shaz51 @Ru-bee @rav3n @Glisten @AuntGlow @tyme and all forum members interested in crafts. Feel free to post any craft projects you may like to share and any craft ideas, news, etc, you may have. I look forward to seeing what things are shared here!

I love knitting, crochet and cross stitch. I have knitted blankets, adults and kids jumpers and beanies for charity as well as myself and friends and have also done a cable knitted scarf in the past for a family friend which was both challenging yet enjoyable. I often have several knitting projects on the go and will knit when watching TV - something to help me focus and interested in the program, such as a simple blanket which only requires wool, needles and a tape measure with garter stitch being the stitch of choice. If I’m stressed or going through a rough period mentally, I find knitting a beanie or 2 to be a great way of handling this period as I can focus on the pattern and not whatever is causing me issues in my life. Knitting beanies for charity and blankets is a great way of using up leftover wool as I know they will be all diffferent yet unique and be able to keep people warm, especially here in Victoria where I’m based. I’ve been a knitter for over 40 years and love being creative with the colours of wool- acrylic mostly! I love knitting my own jumpers knowing that no one else will have the same jumper as me and being able to make it my own preferred length and style.

In terms of crochet, I can only do granny squares so I’ve been making squares and blankets for charity.

As for cross stitching, I started it over 20 years ago when I was at uni and have recently got back into the hobby. This clownfish is the start of a bookmark I started last night which I’m stitching to remind myself of when I saw a clownfish at the Cairns aquarium on my recent cruise ship holiday in June to the Great Barrier Reef.

I have started doing diamond painting as of February this year thanks to starting it at a PARCS complex as part of my mental health recovery journey which I really enjoyed and found to be calming, meditative and good for dealing with anxiety and stress. I’ve got a cat canvas on the go and have recently completed 3 bookmarks from Kmart last week when I was on a mental health retreat. Below is a coaster I completed a few months ago from a kit from Kmart.

Enjoy your crafting!

@PeppyPatti Hey Bella

we do find the sprinkles of goodness to nurture our souls. We need to.

Maybe I will find an arty outlet to express myself one day, I have usually leaned to the more practical side… I think of my gardening as a form of slow living sculpture, lotsa clay around here…lol

had a good chat with my physio today covering food, religion culture politics yadda yadda….did cross trainer, reformer and small massage. Grateful

@Bunniekins @ENKELI @Judi9877 @tyme @Shaz51 and all…

Re: Craft Central

It's really really tough feeling memories of a past significant

event --- stretch of time

Fade away.

I feel like that about the Holocaust.

Last weekend I think there was a march in Perth. Was it bringing up racist issues ?

I digress.

@ENKELI how has your life changed positively ?

@ENKELI. I lost my home.

But I live in a nice area plus I'm not paying all the bills owning a home.

Iv identified what it's like to be vulnerable.

Re: Craft Central

@PeppyPatti -

The march was in solidarity of America's stance on illegal immigration.

"Enkeli how has your life changed positively?"

I'm afraid I can't answer that as my life hasn't changed positively. If I could go back to 2013 and un-meet ex friend I would do it in a heartbeat. Without regret. I regret meeting her and I regret giving her 10 years of my life, my money and my emotional wellbeing.

I may own my house but it was not maintained while I was living with ex friend and as such I now have to find thousands of dollars to do repairs. My insurance company cancelled my home and contents insurance because the house is in such poor condition

I am missing 3 front teeth of my top row and 2 on the bottom row. Quote for dental work $6000. That's not including getting a plate to replace the missing teeth.

The one friend I have is my crazy cat lady friend but we are not best friends. She has other friends who are her besties. The only other friends I have never have time to catch up with me and I am always the one who has to reach out to them, they never just call or message me to ask how I am or if I'd like to go for a coffee etc.

The positive in my life is that I am able to chat with people on Sane.

Why am I telling you all this you are probably wondering. To let you know that despite all my problems I can always count on you to make me smile. Along with the other people I get to chat with.

You are a big blessing Pepster xoxo

Re: Craft Central

What is lemon thyme? A mix between lemon grass and thyme grafted together? @ENKELI Sounds awesome though!

Re: Craft Central

@tyme it is a thyme all its own! The leaves have a really nice citrusy scent and and taste and is good to use for chicken and fish so Google tells me. I'm going to try it next time I do a roast chook, mmm nummy!
