Sports Central

Hi there all sports lovers! As lots of forum members like and enjoy sports, I’ve started this thread up to talk all things sport.

This is a discussion space/thread for all things sports, whether that be discussing sports teams, athletes, players or anything in between. Tagging @Shaz51 @Glisten @Emelia8 @tyme @TAB @Ru-bee @AuntGlow and others who may be interested. Feel free to join in on the discussion!

On a personal note, I’m into AFL - Brisbane Lions, NRL - Melbourne Storm, Suncorp Super Netball - West Coast Fever and Sunshine Coast Lightning, cricket- especially BBL with my team being the Hobart Hurricanes, tennis - currently watching the US Open, horse racing and swimming. I’ll also watch the Olympics and Commonwealth Games when they’re on TV.

The AFL finals start off on Thursday night with Adelaide playing Collingwood in Adelaide - Go the Crows and the Brisbane Lions playing the Geelong Cats on Friday night at the MCG with a hopeful Lions win. Whoever wins these 2 matches has the following week off with the losers playing the winners of the other teams next week- see below. Fremantle play the Gold Coast Suns in Perth on Saturday and Hawthorn play the GWS Giants again on Saturday. Both are elimination finals with the losers ending their season. I’d love for the Lions to go back to back and win their 2nd premiership but Adelaide and Geelong are looking pretty good with most if their players in good form so it’s anybody’s guess as to what happens. It would be great to have an all Queensland grand final with the Lions and the Suns but again, I’m doubtful of that happening. Again, anything is possible!

Enjoy your sports and may the best teams win!

@Judi9877 @Emelia8 @Snowie @Eve7 @Eve7 @Shaz51.

That was a good game. But I could tell that the tied had changed after half time. The Panthers just weren't hungry enough.

Congratulations to the Brisbane Broncos, and I hope they go on to beat the Storm. And I only say that because my ex family didn't like me being honest with them, about the abuse their brother put me through. And they live in Melbourne, so whenever I watch the Storm play, I think of them, as they took me to a couple Melbourne v Penrith games when I visited them.

I asked one of the brothers to take over responsibility for his burial plot which expires in 2027. And they declined. I told him I wasn't going to pay for my abusers plot, so his body will be moved. And his plot will be reused. They didn't seem to care.

But I will pay for the plot, as I can't just let his plot be reused.

I used to go there and tell him exactly what I thought of him. And how I did not deserve to be treated in that way. Since the anger for what he put me through has finally passed, I want to try and remember some good times we had, when I visit his grave. It's funny when I had an argument with my partner or was too stressed out, I would go to his grave. I find it so peaceful and relaxing as the cemetery has some really beautiful spots in there.

Sorry to get off the sports topic.

I don’t really care for either the Broncos or Storm, just sorry Cronulla won’t be playing.

Hello @Emelia8 @Eve7 @Mustang67 @Snowie @Shaz51 @Chasingsunsets @tyme and all sport lovers here.

The Aussie Dolphins Paraswimming team won 9 gold medals in Singapore in the World Championships over the past week which was a great result. The Australian Youth Diamonds team also won the world youth netball championship today as well which was also a great result.

The NRL grand final week starts today with both of the Brisbane Broncos men’s and women’s teams into the Grand Final on Sunday in Sydney. The Broncos women’s team defeated Newcastle and they’ll now face the Roosters next Sunday. Go the Broncos! The
men’s team defeated Penrith in a brilliant last 15 minutes of play. I watched the men’s match as I’m a Melbourne Storm fan and wanted to know who we’d be playing in the grand final so I was very happy to see the Broncos win, ending the Penrith run of grand final shows and premierships. Sorry to all Penrith supporters! I’m hoping for a Storm win on Sunday as we lost to Penrith last year.

@Emelia8 I agree that certain referees and teams have had an advantage over several years, especially with how the competition has gone. Certain refs dislike certain teams and favour the opposition when playing them which makes the game harder for the players. This has been true for Melbourne Storm on several occasions which our coach has spoken about. It also doesn’t help when certain teams have less money to pay players and makes their club less desirable compared to other teams. Yes, Melbourne has been bad with their salary cap issues in the past and have paid the price with forfeiture of premierships so I can understand the unfairness of the game and for supporters as well. It also doesn’t help with new coaches taking over and getting rid of decent players for silly reasons, such as with the exodus of lots of players at the Titans recently. The AFL teams have a history of getting rid of players when they replace their coaches or when they are doing badly - Carlton, Essendon, North Melbourne, Melbourne- and it makes it harder for these teams to succeed. It takes a while for players to get used to a new coach and their methods yet success can and does come eventually. Look at the Brisbane Lions and Chris Fagan for example. They were last on the ladder in 2016 when he took over and had a rough few years yet look at where they are now - 2 premierships later and 3 grand final appearances in the last 3 years.

@Snowie @Eve7 @Mustang67

Roll on cricket season! I personally love big bash cricket - Hurricanes fan here- and I love the atmosphere of the game. I will watch cricket in general if it’s on tv - unless it interferes with tennis and then I’m a tennis fan- and I love watching new players do their stuff, such as Sam Konstas recently. I have been to see a cricket match back in the 80s at the MCG - i was a kid and we had standing room seats if I remember as I hated standing! My sister has been to several big bash games here in Melbourne over the past few years as she’s a Perth Scorchers fan and really enjoyed it.

Enjoy your sports!

Re: Sports Central

@Judi9877 I have this theory that I have seen work several times over and that is, if a team makes the grand final and loses, and then make the grand final again the following year, they tend to win. And I think this is because they all know how devastating it feels to lose, so they are hungrier for the win than the other team. So if my theory is correct, Melbourne Storm should win, but we will wait and see.

I am looking forward to the cricket.

My back stopped me from going to any games last year, but I am hopefully going to a new physio in October who believes in strengthening the areas that are weak and causing the problem, with specialised equipment that target the areas. So hopefully by next year, my back should be strong enough so I can get to a game 🤞🤞🤞 I love the atmosphere of the T20's.
