Sports Central

Sports Central

Hi there all sports lovers! As lots of forum members like and enjoy sports, I’ve started this thread up to talk all things sport.

This is a discussion space/thread for all things sports, whether that be discussing sports teams, athletes, players or anything in between. Tagging @Shaz51 @Glisten @Emelia8 @tyme @TAB @Ru-bee @AuntGlow and others who may be interested. Feel free to join in on the discussion!

On a personal note, I’m into AFL - Brisbane Lions, NRL - Melbourne Storm, Suncorp Super Netball - West Coast Fever and Sunshine Coast Lightning, cricket- especially BBL with my team being the Hobart Hurricanes, tennis - currently watching the US Open, horse racing and swimming. I’ll also watch the Olympics and Commonwealth Games when they’re on TV.

The AFL finals start off on Thursday night with Adelaide playing Collingwood in Adelaide - Go the Crows and the Brisbane Lions playing the Geelong Cats on Friday night at the MCG with a hopeful Lions win. Whoever wins these 2 matches has the following week off with the losers playing the winners of the other teams next week- see below. Fremantle play the Gold Coast Suns in Perth on Saturday and Hawthorn play the GWS Giants again on Saturday. Both are elimination finals with the losers ending their season. I’d love for the Lions to go back to back and win their 2nd premiership but Adelaide and Geelong are looking pretty good with most if their players in good form so it’s anybody’s guess as to what happens. It would be great to have an all Queensland grand final with the Lions and the Suns but again, I’m doubtful of that happening. Again, anything is possible!

Enjoy your sports and may the best teams win!

@Chasingsunsets@Judi9877 @Snowie @Shaz51 @Eve7 @Ru-bee @Emelia8 @rav3n @tyme I don't follow an AFL team, but I am hoping that Brisbane win. I am a NRL girl, and definitely don't want Brisbane to win on Sunday since I am a Penrith Panthers supporter and member 🐾🐾🐾🐾

Yea @Eve7

@Mustang67 I wouldn't know who even plays in the NRL! It's good that you follow someone and that you are a member.

Was brought up to be an AFL fan. Even went to a Grand final one year. Was amazing seeing it live.

Re: Sports Central

@Snowie I used to work with Heath Grundy (No 39)'s sister. So I was following the Sydney Swans for the years that he played. I went to Sydney with his sister for Heath's 21st birthday and watched his game from the members stand at The Sydney Cricket Ground. That was awesome. And I got to go into the dressing room afterwards and I also met some players at his 21 birthday dinner. I was sitting opposite Michael O'Loughlin and got to talking to him. He is a really nice guy. I must say that the entire weekend was a highlight of my life.

I started following Penrith Panthers in 1991, as my partner at the time played rugby league for South Australia. After he passed, I stop following rubgy all together, but picked it up again years later. I have been lucky enough to see them live a couple of times at The Adelaide Oval.

I have been a member for the last 3 years. They have won the premiership the last 4 years in a row, and they are up against Brisbane Broncos in the preliminary final on Sunday. If they win, they will be up against Melbourne Storm, which is my partner's team Lol. We played the Storm last year and obviously beat them.

The State of Origin, which is between Queensland (Cain Toads) and New South Wales (Cockroaches) is an awesome game to watch, as you have the best players from each state playing against each other. They are generally played in Brisbane and Sydney and occasionally they play in Melbourne or Perth. It has always been on my bucket list to watch a game live. Two years ago when it was coming up, I said to my partner, lets go to Sydney to watch the game. And the very next day, they announced that the first match was being played in Adelaide. I was on the website buying the tickets on the try zone before even consulting with my partner. Even though my team lost, I loved the atmosphere. I would still like to see it played in Sydney though.

Re: Sports Central

That would have been a great experience being in the rooms after a game @Mustang67

Have met some AFL player.

Growing up we went to lots of games. It was always the girls/women going for Carlton and the boys/men going for Collingwood. Always a big rivalry in our house!

We have taken my kids lots of times to the footy too.

It's good that you follow rugby again. I hope that they win for you.

Re: Sports Central

@Snowie it's great that you have taken the kids to the footy. I bet they love it. I have taken my daughter once, as a boyfriend at the time was a Port Power supporter. That is one team that I didn't think I would ever watch. My current partner is a crows supporter, so whenever they played the Swans we would go.

We also go and watch the cricket. Last year I tried to get her to come and watch the Adelaide Strikers in the T20, as I thought it would be more exciting for her, but she wasn't interested at all.

My first live cricket match watching a one day international. My dad took me when I was 12 because I wanted to watch Kepler Wessels. Lol

Re: Sports Central

@Mustang67 we also watch the cricket and have gone to some of the T20 matches.

I did get to go to the Boxing Day test at the MCG a few years ago. That was really good to see too. Crowd there was great.

I remember Kepler Wessel. Never saw him live.
