Sports Central

Hi there all sports lovers! As lots of forum members like and enjoy sports, I’ve started this thread up to talk all things sport.

This is a discussion space/thread for all things sports, whether that be discussing sports teams, athletes, players or anything in between. Tagging @Shaz51 @Glisten @Emelia8 @tyme @TAB @Ru-bee @AuntGlow and others who may be interested. Feel free to join in on the discussion!

On a personal note, I’m into AFL - Brisbane Lions, NRL - Melbourne Storm, Suncorp Super Netball - West Coast Fever and Sunshine Coast Lightning, cricket- especially BBL with my team being the Hobart Hurricanes, tennis - currently watching the US Open, horse racing and swimming. I’ll also watch the Olympics and Commonwealth Games when they’re on TV.

The AFL finals start off on Thursday night with Adelaide playing Collingwood in Adelaide - Go the Crows and the Brisbane Lions playing the Geelong Cats on Friday night at the MCG with a hopeful Lions win. Whoever wins these 2 matches has the following week off with the losers playing the winners of the other teams next week- see below. Fremantle play the Gold Coast Suns in Perth on Saturday and Hawthorn play the GWS Giants again on Saturday. Both are elimination finals with the losers ending their season. I’d love for the Lions to go back to back and win their 2nd premiership but Adelaide and Geelong are looking pretty good with most if their players in good form so it’s anybody’s guess as to what happens. It would be great to have an all Queensland grand final with the Lions and the Suns but again, I’m doubtful of that happening. Again, anything is possible!

Enjoy your sports and may the best teams win!

Brissy Lions did well @Judi9877, would have been a very satisfying game to watch. Wish saints won games like that 🤭

I didn’t get to watch the game but just looked up the scores to see who won!!

Hello @Chasingsunsets @Ru-bee @Eve7 @tyme @Emelia8 @rav3n @Shaz51 and all sport lovers here this Friday. What a big week it has been in sport!

The World Championship Athletics started in Tokyo with several athletes making it to the semi finals and final including high jump and other sports. I did watch Gout Gout and Torrie Lewis in their runs and I also watched some of the pole vault and high jump events. The Aussies are doing a great job and I’m proud of them. We’ve even won 2 medals this week as well.

In the Davis Cup tennis in Sydney last weekend, Australia lost so we are out of that competition now unfortunately. Alex Di Minaur did have a win which was good to see. Better luck next year!

In terms of AFL, it’s Week 3 of the finals with Brisbane Lions to play Collingwood tomorrow night at 5:15pm and the Geelong Cats to play Hawthorn tonight with both matches at the MCG. The winners play off next Saturday at the Grand Final with me hoping Brisbane defeat Collingwood tomorrow night- my team. I did watch the Brisbane be Gold Coast match last weekend to see Brisbane win so I was a very happy camper, despite being stressful at times during the match. Hopefully if we do win, Lachie Neale might make it back after injury and he’ll be able to play. Again, it’s up to the boys to play their best and defeat Collingwood.I’d like to see Hawthorn win tonight as well as Brisbane has defeated them in the past. A very interesting 48 hours coming up!

NRL finals week 2 are on this weekend with Melbourne Storm having the week off along with the Brisbane Broncos. I’m so glad that Melbourne won’t have to face Penrith until the Grand Final if it goes that far as we don’t have a great record against Penrith in grand finals. Personally, I’m hoping for a Dogs and Raiders win this weekend - sorry @Emelia8 ! Again, another interesting weekend coming up!

That’s all for me right now. May the best teams and athletes win!

Don't be sorry @Judi9877 re hoping for Dogs and Raiders wins this weekend in the NRL. I'm with you! 👍

I think you've forgotten that I'm a Raiders fan, and was devastated with their loss last weekend. They were robbed! 😭 And for interest sake, before Raiders entered the comp I used to follow Canterbury, so still have a soft spot for them too 💕

So @Eve7 it will be your Sharks up against my Raiders 😀. Just hope it's a fair game, without controversy.

Re: Sports Central

I did watch the Brownlow @Chasingsunsets despite being out of the loop in footy in recent years and not recognizing a lot of the players! I've heard that the winner was a bit controversial and some are calling favouritism, bit of drama going on!

@Judi9877 I am so proud of my Penrith Panthers 🐾🐾 coming from the bottom of the ladder earlier in the year, to now be in the preliminary final against the Brisbane Broncos.

Hello @Chasingsunsets @Mustang67 @Ru-bee @Emelia8 @Shaz51 @Eve7 @tyme @rav3n and all sports fans here. What a week it’s been in the world of sports! Everything from the end of the world athletics championships in Tokyo to both AFL and NRL finals and tennis and para swimming championships!

@Emelia8 I’m sorry that your Raiders got defeated. I did watch the last half of that match on TV and was cheering for them to get through. Better luck next year!

@Chasingsunsets I did watch part of the Brownlow medal - I watched The Block and then changed channel at the end- and I was very happy that Nick Daicos didn’t win it- not a Collingwood fan here! Nasiah from St Kilda did get ripped off for the votes in that round as I did watch that match on TV when it was on and he deserved the 3 votes. I knew that Lachie Neale wouldn’t get it due to his injuries but I’m happy that a Gold Coast Sun won the medal as he was a good player. I’d like to think that Will Ashcroft could win the Brownlow in a few years as he’s such a good player but I’m also sure that Bailey Smith will likely win the medal as well in the next few years as well.

I am 1 very happy yet nervous camper today on this Friday arvo as I’m hoping that my Brisbane Lions can win the AFL premiership tomorrow afternoon against Geelong and go back to back. The Lions theme word is Believe and whilst I do believe in them being able to win, I also know that Geelong are a great side despite being full of older players and have beaten us before, most recently in week 1 of the finals 3 weeks ago. It’s anyone’s game, but at least Lachie Neale is back in the side tomorrow- I’m uncertain how he’ll go with his calf injury- so fingers crossed for a lions win! I went to the Melbourne show yesterday and got the Brisbane Lions showbag so I’ve now got a new baseball hat and coffee mug to use during tomorrow’s nervous match!

Tonight is week 3 of NRL finals with Melbourne Storm playing the Cronulla Sharks at AAMI park in Melbourne tonight so I’m hoping for a Storm win - my team. I’ll be watching the match so again, a nervous few hours ahead for me. Ryan P and Jerome Hughes are back from injuries/concussion issues so I’m cheering loudly for the boys to perform and take us to the Grand Final next Sunday night. Penrith are playing the Brisbane Broncos on Sunday afternoon in Brisbane with me hoping for a Broncos win- I’m sick of seeing Penrith in the grand finals over the past 4 years. Let’s hope Reece Walsh has a great game and Nathan Cleary leaves his kicking boots at home! I’ll be watching the match on Sunday afternoon so it should be a great match. A Storm vs Broncos grand final would make me very happy with a Storm premiership at the end of next Sunday night!

I did see some of the highlights from the world athletics championships including Australia getting gold in the women’s high jump which I was happy to see. What was your highlights @Eve7 ?

The para swimming championships are currently happening this week and we’ve picked up several medals already including gold and silver. They are very talented and I enjoy watching the team race in their competition. Go Aussies!

Enjoy your sports and may the best teams win!
