Look, I have my own opinion about alcohol and drugs. In my opinion, you're all the better for not doing it @ArraDreaming But I also know you are an adult, and the decisions you make are the ones you have to bear consequences for, so I'm not going to say go do it. Nor am I going to say not to do it. That's for you to decide.
I guess if you feel good about not drinking in the shed and smoking weed anymore, I'm totally here to celebrate with you! 🙂 I know how hard you are trying mate. And a lot of that is because you want to be a better person and be there for your children.
As for neural pathways, there's a saying "Those that fire together, wire together". Which means that the more you 'fire up' parts of your brain, the more they will connect so that things eventually become autopilot for you. Neurons are brain cells. So each time you use part of your brain, it fires up and the brain cells connects to send messages. The more these are used, the more active they are.
For a long time, my brain was mainly fired up on the emotional part of my brain. Which meant I naturally became a walking explosive emotional brain. Over time, through therapy, I 'fired' up other parts of my brain that I never really used before... so that now, it's second nature.
Nah, I won't go into all the science. Sorry I'm not making sense.

Lol.. even if you only have 6 brain cells left, you can grow them. The more you use them, the more are created... just don't go blowing them by banging your head or drugging yourself!
I think I told you that my BIL was a heavy user? His brain has been damaged from it and he's on medication for the rest of his life.
You DON'T want that.
And yes, being there for your kids is the most important. You have first hand experience of what it's like not to have a present caregiver... these are learning opportunities. Things my parents couldn't provide, we want to provide for ou kids. It's fact. @ArraDreaming
But you are doing an amazing job. It's not easy, but we're with you on this.
Anyway, I've got some admin work to finish before I clock off tonight, so I'd better go. I'll see you tomorrow if you're on.
