@SmilingGecko thanks for your post, it is much appreciated. I first got interested in VE back in the 90's when my Godmother and I spoke about it. She knew that she wanted the option if she felt she could no longer go on. She had been involved in a car accident and had had a hip replacement. The hip replaced was rejected by her body so she no longer has a hip. It causes a lot of pain and she knew that she wouldn't want to have her life prolonged. She even put me in touch with what was then called WAVES but is now called Dying with Dignity.
Although I am a Christian and don't agree with many things regarding voluntary death I definitely support VE.

My dad wants his ashes scattered at a property that he visited and became very close with the couple whose property it is. My sister automatically assumed she would be doing the scattering and I suspect it's only because she gets to tell everyone she was the only one who would do it, plus dad has set aside money for it to be done. I emailed her and dad's lawyer to advise that I fully intend on scattering his ashes as it is because of me dad met the couple and I want to be able to talk to them and share some stories dad told me about when he was working with them.

I am so hurt that A (my sister) didn't tell me that dad has chosen a date for VE because I wanted to be there to say goodbye. Now she's running around and telling everyone she's the only child out of the 4 of us who cared or who bothered with Dad. FFS (sorry for the bad language, I'm a little annoyed!) I live in WA and he was in NSW. I had booked a flight to go over and see him but he told me to cancel it as he was going to be in hospital so it was no point that I go over at that time. Then he ended up in the aged care facility that my stepmonster had been moved to after her second stroke so I lost around $600 in airfare.

As soon as it is all over I will end all contact with her. She will badmouth me to everyone who will listen, bitch about me on Facebook and other social media and thirstily grab as much attention as she can for she thrives on being in the spotlight. She got all the worst traits of our dad that's for sure.

I really don't feel regret or remorse for the family that have disowned me. I think of my best friend who has no immediately family save for her uncle who is low functioning due to contracting meningitis as a child or young adult and is in care and a stepmother and 3 siblings who again she hasn't seen in many years. All told I am so very blessed that I have my mum and her sister who is my favourite aunt, plenty of cousins who would drop everything if I needed them and my brother. As my bestie says, it saves a boatload in Christmas and birthday presents!!

Turned a/c off then noticed thermometer out of comfort zone by a fair bit. Back on now. Going to lay here for a while. If I sleep, all the better 😃
