Talking through trauma and PTSD

wandering the next steps after misdiagnosis and feeling unsafe in healthcare settings

wandering the next steps after misdiagnosis and feeling unsafe in healthcare settings

i have trauma from healthcare services

i trust not a single soul, besides for my GP

people are pushing me into public care, public care is pushing me into private, and and everyone claims the NDIS can do everything

NDIS is full of strange workers - luckily i found a nice and intelligent one

I have tried case management, Spectrum, and seeing a private psych

I don't have BPD but as soon as I mention Spectrum I'm told stock phrases like "you have to stick it out" and "you're in good hands" and offered BPD coping skills

it doesn't seem to matter what my diagnosis is - people seem to want to solve things and push me away rather than hear the reality of what i experience and know.

@EternalFlower that is horrible I hope you can get a decent outcome from your request it is terrible that you haven’t seen a dr and they still claim to diagnose you with something you don’t even have honestly BPD is the new female hysteria diagnosis it is used to silence and dismiss women mostly who are in pain and suffering and sure there are a few people who might fit the criteria but it is way over diagnosed I have a number of friends who I have met through mental health circles who were misdiagnosed with BPD and it doesn’t even surprise me anymore when people say it happened to them too because it is so common.

They called my brother and sister who had been in foster homes longer than me, from much younger, BPD. She died when she was 21. He died when he was 33. @EternalFlower

Maybe it’s partly why I have the mindset that I do now. They called my parents schizophrenic. With all the so called medical model and who ha about “ it’s genetic” BS It just didn’t add up for me. I believe it is due to trauma and inadequate social support at critical points in the developmental process. [edited by moderator] At the time I was studying Earth science at a good university. I love good science, but not excuses to be socially arrogant, throw weight around at other people’s expense, and milk the government for dollars, and have people die, with no accountability. I saw how they treat people from a very young age. Lots of anecdotes but they are my story. However, be careful, cos there are power imbalances.

Yes, the whitewashing of the system has changed. Eg., at son’s hospital they have a pretty RECOVERY plaque on the wall, but staff, of various trainings are adamant about medication for life… and talk about “ treatment “ as only meds, to me. It was a cute little registrar, on her first year. It is not compelling or good enough for the damage that system can inflict. Even under time pressures they ought to acknowledge, even in passing a more wholesome human attitude. Now, they are going to have to face the reality later in their careers, that they often function as drug company enforcers. I am not sure they will have the psychological honesty.

If your doctor can see more, he might be a good one.

@Appleblossom

your story matters and i am so sorry for what your siblings went through and ur family

the youngest ones can be some of the most judgemental

on a career path to take take take with no regard for patients

my favourite pyschiatrist was a woman in her 70s 🙂 blunt and direct but very very honest

my prior dr was in his 40s and pushed me out with no referrals when i said i'd had enough of life and him

ur right and thanks for ur comments.

that is

@Eden1919 https://www.garmentory.com/sale/rachel-antonoff/women-sweatshirts/185319-hysterical-female-sweatshirt (lol).

yes i had a peer worker tell me it was BS - and that was very validating for me -

i don't think it's fair because I cant access services for BPD - because I don't have the Dx, but when i go to the ED, they send me away, because I have BPD.

There have been some really helpful ED clinicians but in the last 12 months i've been like 15 times as I'm constantly feeling unsafe in myself.

So my GP tells me to go there, which I do, and then they tell me to go home, coz I"m just a "BPD in crises." And then if I ask for referrals to BPD services, they say I don't have BPD.

I need to just protect myself, somehow, but I don't know how right now.

@EternalFlower yeah that sucks that they wont even let you access bpd services while calling you bpd the logic there just doesnt add up. i know that services are underfunded and stretched and all that but there has got to be some kind of standard of care that should be met at the moment australia is failing to meet any kind of standard for mental health and it is unacceptable if only the big wigs in government actually cared about funding appropriate services for people.

@Eden1919 i agree there is very little hope - i tried speaking up and it was useless, just a cog in the machine sometimes 😞
