Fortunate

Fortunate

I have seen many writings from so many people but don't feel that I'm in the same league. While I've served for many years I feel my mental health is intact and have sustained many injuries that I manage regularly. Fortunately I have continued working a reservist and feel a lot of satisfaction from being a tradesman using my former qualifications in a museum restoration environment.

I'm not a writer but maybe just trying to recall some of my experiences could help to put something on paper.

Re: Fortunate

Thanks @Magpie22, I'm glad your walking/shuffling as time prevails, this must be a relief from the busy work schedule for you.

It looks like no Parkrun for me this coming Saturday because of inclement weather. I’ll keep you posted

Ageing isn't fun as you know, and it's like excuses become a regular spot to think about. You probably need to arrange some time lines to do stuff during each day. Like every day routines plus exercise even if it's small to start with. What do you think?

Hi @MtLittleJoe

You will be pleased to hear that I finally stopped making excuses.

I haven't changed my eating habits just yet, but I started a small exercise routine.

I have done 3 days of exercise on my mini cycle, and I have a plan to meet a friend to walk on Tuesday's and Thursday's (only not tomorrow as I have the blood bank). I am feeling quite pleased with myself.

Re: Fortunate

So much easier to enjoy walking when you have a buddy to exercise with. Take your time and start small, little things change in your body structure, and make sure your shoes are ready for a bit of punishment, hahaha.

@MtLittleJoe

I am probably due for some new shoes. The ones I have now were just cheapies from Spendless. I might have to invest in some proper walking shoes

Re: Fortunate

Agree go and buy a new pair of walking shoes from Athletes foot, they will provide good advice. Even some of the DFOs have specials on their shoes, might be worth checking them also. Or see a Podiatrist for advice. Do you have a recognised injury through DVA? Like Pes Planus or Plantar Facitis (not sure of the correct spelling). Might be worth checking first.

Re: Fortunate

when was the last time you did something that made you laugh? Or caught yourself completely absorbed in something you genuinely enjoy?

Your body holds memories of joy and playfulness, even if they feel buried under routines and "shoulds." Sometimes the best medicine isn't another scheduled activity - it's giving yourself permission to be spontaneous.

What if instead of adding more structure, you added more curiosity? Like... what would happen if you said yes to one random thing this week that sounds fun but "impractical"?

What's one thing you used to love doing that you've talked yourself out of because of age or "excuses"? Your body might be telling you it's ready to play again.

Re: Fortunate

I love this question @ccau_82

I did get invited to go to an AFLW game with some friends on the weekend and I was in two minds. But your idea has prompted me to reconsider. I’m not really an AFL fan, but I do quite like the friends who invited me and it might be fun.
