Welcome and getting started

BPD

BPD

I think I have BPD and it’s ruining my life. I had a gastric bypass two years ago and now I have a problem with alcohol. I’ve had self harm and gambling issues in the past. I’m in [edited by moderator] Melbourne and would really love recommendations for psychiatrists and psychologists

Re: BPD

Hi @bpdgirlie_84 and welcome to the forums

It sounds like you have been through a lot in recent years so it's great that you're taking steps in reaching out and getting support.

I did just want to let you know that we've made a slight edit to your post to make your location a little less specific, to ensure your anonymity is preserved. You can read more about that in our community guidelines (they can be easy to miss when first signing up)

While the forums can't provide recommendations for specific practitioners, there may be different services that our members have used to help with similar concerns. Something that can be helpful to know is whether you've received any support before and what sort of support you've found helpful/unhelpful in the past

Re: BPD

I’ve tried EMDR, CBT, medication, TMS, ECT and see a psychologist

but I feel hollow, empty and angry all of the time

my drinking is impacting my children and marriage and I feel like I’m fading as a person

i really want to find a psychiatrist who specializes in BPD in Victoria

Re: BPD

That sounds like a really hard position to be in @bpdgirlie_84 but it sounds like you're really wanting to find the right support for you and make some positive changes. I know it can be so difficult especially when you've been reaching out and haven't found the right fit yet.

Have you had a look at the psychiatrist directory? It allows you to filter for location and specialization among other things. It could be helpful in narrowing down psychiatrists

Have you every access Turning Point? https://www.turningpoint.org.au/ @bpdgirlie_84

I have BPD too. I struggled a lot with addiction, but things have really settled now.

Hope you get the support you need.

Re: BPD

hey @bpdgirlie_84 have u tried seeing a psychaitrist for therapy? there are some psychaitrists in melbourne that specialise in psychotherapy (psychodyanmics/attachment based) which can be very containing.

Sorry to hear about your problems with alchohol

I am not recommending this person as a practitioner as we are not allowed - https://www.drelikotler.com.au/ - but there are some interesting ideas here and he gives lectures online about addiction and recovery

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles - there are some great programs at VMIAC as well. Good luck x
