Rumination and unhelpful coping strategies. TW: Addictive tendencies

Rumination and unhelpful coping strategies. TW: Addictive tendencies

I struggle with rumination as part of Bipolar, OCD, CPTSD. I am also ND and have ADHD and ASD. I have been struggling to function and my productivity has been declining, and I'm often finding myself stuck in rumination for several hours each day. I usually struggle with focus and motivation on a good day, but I think the stress is adding to it. Not being able to do things is also creating stress. I feel like my ADHD is feeding into my mental illness and vice versa. I am finding myself wanting to turn to things that will make things harder in the long term. I know developing addictive behaviours may give me relief in the short run, it'll calm my brain, help me think clearer and make it easier to concentrate on tasks. I am also aware this will create health problems in the long run. I need something to calm my brain and help me function without having negative consequences. I find once I am able to do things, my mental illness symptoms get better. Does anyone have healthy ways to cope with rumination, mental illness and ND? I'm currently on bipolar meds (my pdoc doesn't want me on ADHD meds) which helps me stabilise my mood to a certain degree and I'm trying to work on myself in therapy, but I am still struggling a lot

@rav3n I’m drained as usual. I wish I wasn’t so exhausted all the time. I’m doing what I can do to take care of myself, I guess that’s all we can do. How are you?

i'm good, my dad made me a strong coffee this morning which helped fight the tiredness. he's never made me coffee before so it was really surprising for me.

@rav3n I am contemplating whether to see a nutritionist, I’m not entirely sure yet. I am thinking, chronic fatigue is hard. I’ve had appointments today, kind of exhausted from that.

Coffee sounds nice, I love my morning coffee. I don’t even put much coffee in it because my stomach can’t take it. I’ve had my two cups of matcha today. Healing from sinus infection takes time. I think I’m not entirely sure, but I feel like my yeast infection is back too

I know I’m making progress, my pdoc yesterday thought so too, but I’m so damn exhausted of the daily flashbacks. Maybe I’m able to sit with them better, but they still remain day in and out

@creative_writer how are you going?

I find less pressure in social settings when the main focus isn't people. My favourite is around animals, then the topic can be about the animal/s plus fluffy pats. Another is painting, where everyone's attention is on their own project & conversation is optional but there's still a sense of togetherness. Also seeing physical results can be calming.

I've been seeing many variations of matcha drinks like strawberry matcha, earl grey matcha etc. Would you be interested in any of those?

@Sneezy I’m not great but not the worst. Feeling rather depressed. I hope you are doing okay 💖

I do find it easier when the social focus is on something else besides socialising. If socialising happens, it is a bonus, but it takes that pressure off you.

I haven’t tried flavoured matchas. I’ve mostly been sticking to my traditional bright green. Might explore other flavours as long as they’re not too sweet. Trying to not eat too much sugar while my gut heals up
