How do people function while living with ADHD? I’m pretty much non-functional, it’s taking a toil on my mental health, I’m stuck in constant rumination. I try to look for a reasonable solution, but I see the unreasonable
@Jynx I was mature in some ways as a kid and not mature in other ways, so yes I did grow up in a way, and in a way I didn’t. It was only until adulthood I did a ton of growing because I had to in order to survive. I love vibing with older folks. In a way, I think I’ve craved for that older sibling. I think some of my friendships sort of drifted away as I’ve changed, and I’m okay with that. In a way I feel like I have to start building more fulfilling relationships from scratch. It probably makes more sense to build those friendships with people who I have things in common with

@creative_writer sounds like you are walking that maturity path well, hehe especially that sense of being okay with letting go of relationships that no longer feel right. I think that was a really hard lesson for me to learn my own self. Sometimes it feels scarier to be alone, buuuut if people weren't seeing me as my true self (because I was cutting myself down in order to get them to like me and wanna stay with me) then I was alone anyway in the end.
You'll find your people hun. Maybe in the most unexpected of places, you never know 😊

Re: Functioning with ADHD
@Jynx I find it more painful to be around people and feel alone than being alone. I am not sure how many people truly understand that. Not sure if you’ve heard of Robin Williams’ quote "I used to think the worst thing in life was to end up all alone. It's not. The worst thing in life is to end up with people that make you feel all alone."
Some people do have it easier finding people they connect with. It’s always been hard for me, I was labelled the quirky child. I think it’s easier to find people through events that interest you, because there is that commonality

@creative_writer ach, he was a legend that man. Such an incredibly resonant quote - and yeah I think to be truly seen is one of the most powerful things we can experience at times hey.
Aye I was the weird/quirky child too. Hard to shake it off... had to find folks who embrace it too.
What sorts of things have been sparking your interest of late? Got any hyperfixations?

I would love to know some more about Saffron! What does it do to help your body and mind? @creative_writer
I hear you, it's so hard when your mind is everywhere and your body is so activated. Did you notice moments over the past couple of days were things felt even 1% more manageable?
Also how are you feeling today? Here for some life updates! ☺️💛

@Jynx it’s a shame he left so soon. He is the one who said, “All it takes is a beautiful smile to hide an injured soul and they will never know notice how broken you really are.” He was a very deep thinker.
The thing is the quirkiness cannot be changed or shaken off, there are so many damaging stereotypes of ND.
I’ve found these online writing zoom sessions for NDs, they happen once a week and I’ve found the one I attended amazing. They give you tips on your writing. I’m sure many of us NDs second guess our writing.
I also have a thing for historical fiction rn, I love my historical fiction TV shows.
I am also getting a bit obsessive over trying to improve my health. Lots of health anxiety and mind won’t stop, it almost feels like a hyper fixation but not a good one.
Do you have any current hyper fixations

Re: Functioning with ADHD
@AuntGlow saffron has medicinal properties, there is some research, even though it’s limited to suggest it helps with depression, anxiety, sleep and ADHD. I think it sort of affects your brain chemistry. I come a cultural where the use of saffron in cooking is normal, my mum said my granny loved cooking with it.
Things feel more manageable when I’m able to be productive, even for a few hours. I sort of get there with tea. I do want to improve my afternoon productivity. I’m going to get another opinion of a different GP, sometimes you have to try new people and find someone who will take you seriously. Today I’m tired, I’m better than I was a few days ago, but it will be a process. How are you? 💖

Re: Functioning with ADHD
@creative_writer yeah nah the quirkiness is kinda part of the whole package hey! Good thing there's folks out there who adore it 😊
Ooh what show are you into at the mo?
I totally feel that. I think 'trauma' has become one of my hyperfocuses too - but yeah finding a balance in how we're engaging with it is definitely helpful. Does it feel like it's less of a passion project now and more of a seeking of answers or something like that?

Re: Functioning with ADHD
@Jynx it’s amazing to know there are ND folks out there who love writing too.
Right now, we are watching Rise of Empires: Ottoman.
Yeah trauma can become a hyperfocus, I think it is definitely less about passion and more about answers. I think trauma often makes you feel out of control, sometimes we try to look for ways we can control our life

@creative_writer ooo sounds awfully intense!! I always love the costumery that goes into historical fiction, the attention to detail is amazing!
Maybe that's something that could help you to re-engage with the topic in a more balanced way? Start looking with a slightly different lens, or into broader/less personally relevant topics? And then potentially you could find other avenues to get that sense of control... I dunno, just food for thought!
