Functioning with ADHD

Functioning with ADHD

How do people function while living with ADHD? I’m pretty much non-functional, it’s taking a toil on my mental health, I’m stuck in constant rumination. I try to look for a reasonable solution, but I see the unreasonable

@Jynx maybe we need better integration of different support systems. Modern medicine is often given the upper hand, and often fails to incorporate other supports. Everyone is often on a different page. I’ve been considering going down a nutrition and exercise route, but it’s hard at times trying to determine what is legit and evidence based. I am trying to figure that one out. I don’t know how much it will help me, even if it helps with disordered eating and fitness, that’s something. Disordered eating is probably a result of stress plus reacting to food and getting sick. It’s not just trauma, though trauma is still a big part of it.

I was afraid the eye thing was affecting my sinuses, when I got the sinus infection, it started oozing more than before. The tear duct is also very close to the nose. My mood did dip when I got sick. It does indeed feel like a self-perpetuating cycle. I am still recovering up, I was thinking of making an appointment just in case, I really don’t want another course of antibiotics, but I will observe and see how I go.

@tyme I didn’t do much, I did some reading this morning, took a shower-so I did my Haircare and skincare. I also watched some TV. Washed some of my laundry and hung them. How was your day?

My day was pretty good. Nothing much happened, but it was pleasant @creative_writer 🙂

Re: Functioning with ADHD

@creative_writer I reckon at least exploring a nutritional route might be worth the endeavour? I've been learning more about the gut-brain connection and kinda leaning into that notion, that if I can get my body to a good place, the mental stuff should be a lot easier! Well that's my hope anyway.

Oh oh oh hunnnnn that is SO ROUGH!! Like I would just be a big ol' pile of misery if that were me. Like, it isn't just the physical pain. When it's the face, it impacts us socially too! Whether we want it to or not 😞 I reckon it would absolutely wreck anyone's confidence, which then impacts motivation, inspiration, creativity, all of it!

Be gentle with your wonderful self yeah? 💜

Re: Functioning with ADHD

@tyme sometimes you need an easy day. Did you have a day off from work earlier today?

@Jynx i need to talk to someone about gluten, I want to get that ruled in case that’s affecting how I feel. I really don’t want to have to adjust my diet, but gut health is so important. I did find a gym that does nutrition and exercise, but I want to give myself that space to think before jumping into something. I reckon exercise might mean adjustments to diet.

Maybe the sinus will clear out now that the stones have been removed, I would have to wait and see. Body also does its own recovery. It’s just that antibiotics can cause gut related issues, so I don’t want to take more unless it is necessary

I don't work here in the day time, but I'm doing a million other things so I'm always on the go. I tend to like it that way because if I stay still, I get upset that I haven't achieved anything @creative_writer

How's your job seeking going?

Re: Functioning with ADHD

@tyme I thought you had a day job somewhere else, but maybe I am confusing you with someone else.

The job search is going, nothing has come up yet

Re: Functioning with ADHD

Haahahah @creative_writer , A day job? I do lots of little jobs everywhere. I'm always working because I love it - whether it be paid or unpaid.

I really like all the things I do and that's why I do it. I've considered retiring early, but I think I'll be bored.

What sort of social work are you interested in? Adults? Children? Child protection?

Re: Functioning with ADHD

@Jynx some people do find their MH and physical wellbeing improves by focusing on overall picture. The thing is, I’ve been on meds for a while and in therapy, but I feel a bit trapped. Maybe I need something else along with it. I’m just not sure. I still get rough patches. Sometimes I wish I could describe it, but I lose my words and I don’t know how to process. Trauma work is good, but there is still a lot trapped inside. Maybe I need movement, I don’t know.

@tyme what kind of little jobs do you do? I’m interested in mental health social work, though I am applying widely
